We financially don’t need to sell but to upgrade the squad and not have 4-5 players doing nothing we do.
You must have been sleeping through the last several years of transfer windows if you think £15m is enough in the current market. Or that it would be sensible to sell him for such a low fee. Just on his potential he's worth more.
I'd probably not sell him for anything less than 20m. But the reality is he's been here for like 4 years now, and been here for around 18 months under eddie, and he's done less for the team than almiron and murphy have this season. ASM just cannot be relied upon for fitness or for consistency. He's a liability defensively and doesn't have good enough attacking output to justify starting him, which is why he rarely starts. He doesn't work hard enough, he cannot read the game defensively. 1 ****ing goal this season, and 4 assists. Some of you ASM fanboys are still addicted to him because every so often he has a canny couple of games, but it never lasts. We always say "as soon as he gets a good run of games under his belt...." but how often has that been said over a few seasons now? He'll play like Messi once every 5-6 games and everyone ****s over him but he's just not consistent enough. His attacking output has been **** since we got him, bagging at most 4-5 goals a season, and this season is 1. Considering his goals and assists tally. 15-20m is probably a decent price for a player this erratic. He'd be better off in the french league. I'd personally not sell him because we may as well keep him as a back up option, but if we manage to get a bid £20m, I'd definitely consider it.
Please explain to me how a winger who averages 3-5 goals and 3-5 assists a season, who misses 10-15 games a season through injury, and is liability defensively is worth more than 20m? 4 seasons and his best goal tally was 5 and his best assist tally was 5. This doesn't compensate for his **** defending. We can say "just wait until he gets a good run of games" all we want, but we've been saying this for ****ing years now!!! This season he got 1 goal DESPITE being under eddie howe and got 5 assists, 3 of those were against City. EVERY single time he starts a good run of form, after 2-3 games he gets injured. 20m would be generous, you're all overrating him massively. A player that averages 3-5 goals and 3-5 assists who works their arse off and defends maybe worth that, but ASM does not. He's a luxury player most games and a defensive liability, gives the ball away many times a game, often lacks an end product.
Murphy was about 14 years ago...Prices are high.. why would newcastle sell him for a **** price anyway? They're trying to add to the squad not rip up your squad and start again.
20m is not a **** price, and like I said I probably wouldn't sell him because he may be a decent squad player and our squad depth is ****, but all I'm saying is he's not worth more than £15-20m.
Of course it is you haven't seemed to notice the prices these days have you ? Now answer the question... why would Newcastle sell for such a low price when they're trying to build a squad?
He doesn't add enough value. Period. Many players who have similar records to him at least work hard defensively, he does not. So the fact that he doesn't work hard defensively subtracts from his value.
It is a pretty low price. £15m would be stupid. £20million impatient. Get him on an injury free run and he'd fetch a lot more. Players with his skill level tend to attract bids from clubs/managers who think they can get the best from them.
HOW LONG HAVE WE BEEN SAYING THIS AND IT NEVER HAPPENS! 1 G/A per 3.5 games + no defensive work rate. How is this worth more than £20m? I'm not saying we should definitely sell him, but he'd be the first winger to go if we did sell him. If selling him for 20m would help us buy a 25m winger that got slightly better attacking returns and worked hard, it would be worth it. I think we could replace him and get someone significantly better for 25-30m, so selling him for 20m could aid in that sale.
Thankfully you're not the seller otherwise we'd end up with a weaker squad before the clubs even competed in Europe. You do understand Newcastle need as much depth as possible don't you? The market value for him is around 40 million ... they'd probably take it but 20 nah. Newcastle are looking to add players
Yes we do need depth, but we also need effective players. ASM is not very effective and a defensive liability. Here's the facts, we'll be buying a winger for a hefty price this season, likely someone like Szobozlai or Barnes for 30-40m.
Max has actually played well he's just injured too much. You'll not get either of those two for that price and tbh Barnes isn't the level they require imo. Gordon was 50 million tash.
