It is my interpretation mate, maybe came across as I know for certain but I dont! When you think it through though it is the only plausible reason I reckon. Contract lengths or money arent a massive challenge to solve IMO. I am not convinced Alex is fully bought into signing some of these young lads and wants more control over that. On reflection I think this may have been bubbling behind the scenes for a few weeks as the window rumbles on and he isnt getting control over who is signed.

devils advocate here - if he's left as he wants to work with experienced pros and not the youth model we are implementing, I know which side I fall on.

We need to find a head coach who can come in and work with the style of player we are bringing in.

I really want(ed) that to be Neil. But if he doesn't want it to be him, then I guess ****ing off now is for the best

Must say though the Bennette signing niggles me. It just doesn't seem like it's fits what Neil's done with the squad. I'm not optimistic about the kid, from what I've seen he looks a bit gash. But the club have put some effort and money into bringing him in. If I'm Alex Neil I'd be asking why those funds and man hours weren't put into some one with EFL experience.

He came here not as our first choice. He is Stokes first choice. It could come down to something as simple as that. I was never comfortable with this rolling contract. First time in my lifetime we've lost a manager to another club and we'll get about 27 quid compo. Onto the next one.
