What do you reckon to Man City's formation against Newcastle? They played two v three at the back for most of the game and swamped the midfield with a five. It works most games but the were a bit fortunate against Newcastle to get back into the game.

Their tactics are a bit like Liverpool, ie their defence plays high up the pitch. Therefore they can be susceptible to pacy forwards.

Their full backs do, in fact for the most part on Sunday they made a five in midfield with and without the ball.
Newcastle's three forwards outnumbered Man City's two defenders for a good part of the game because of the pace of St Maximin, fortunately Man City's quality showed through in the end.

I didn't see that game but I generally like the way City play. The inverted full backs really helped them control possession in their game against West Ham.

I don't take much notice of what Football Fancast say but they reckon we're interested in Jamal Lowe on Loan. So are Burnley, Watford and Norwich.

Celtic have ‘been tracking’ Paris Saint-Germain attacking midfielder Edouard Michut ‘all summer’, according to journalist Pete O’Rourke.

The highly-rated 19-year-old had been expected to depart his boyhood club in search of regular game time, but with deadline day fast approaching, it remains to be seen where he will be plying his trade in 2022/23.

What is the latest news involving Michut?
Last month, Sky Sports reported that Celtic are ‘targeting a deal’ for Michut and that the Glasgow giants are ‘preparing an offer’ in the region of £2 million (€2.5m) for him.

Yet PSG are believed to have informed interested parties they want around £5m for the France Under-19 international, with Sevilla, Nice and Toulouse also monitoring his situation.

The majority of the best teams in the world ie City, Liverpool, Madrid, Bayern play with a “normal” back 4. Chelsea, Spurs, PSG play with a back 3. Chelsea and Spurs are both teams who tend to play on the counter in big matches so it works well for them in those scenarios, we’ve seen how many times Spurs seemed to have turned City over in the last few years and obviously Chelsea’s CL win.

Have a look at how Xavi sets Barca up though, 3 at the back with 2 holding midfielders and essentially no wing backs then more of a “4” behind Lewandowski. The “wing backs” if you like are Dembele and Torres/Pedri, players who are very attacking and end up playing either side of the striker. Must have bollocks of steel setting up like that but I’m all for finding out how it goes because I think he’ll one of footballs great managers.

Sunderland have entered into negotiations with PSG for the transfer of midfielder Édouard Michut.

Not called up with Christophe Galtier's group since the start of the season, Édouard Michut (19) could bounce back to Sunderland (English D2).

From internal sources, the English club and Paris-Saint-Germain have entered into negotiations for the transfer of the young midfielder, under contract until 2025.
