This. I wouldn’t keep Burge in L1 never mind the championship…
Agreed. No room for sentiment. Burge, McGeady, Grigg, Willis, Xhemajli, Hoffmann and Dajaku all need to be shown the door. We need to buy Championship quality players

thing is with broadhead, despite his time out he has still managed a good goal return and once in front of goal he never freezes..the downside is, do we then need to sign another striker for when he is out or do we change our style to a 'one up top'?

our business is (i hope) going to be decided more by the way AN wants to play than 'the model' although i would hope that AN was chosen as his wants are similar to the model and now we wait to see if both parties agree.

i dare say everyone will want the contracts situation sorted out asap as they will all be in need of a holiday, i also very much doubt we will have another hume scenario that drags on too long.

Burge is garbage. We need to be aiming higher than that. Sign genuine competition for Patterson
Carney is better than Burge. I maybe would sign Hoff as cover, but would not worry if Carney was given his chance, he has had a brilliant season in the U23's he is a better shot stopper than Patto imo and could well go all the way, we have certainly gone from rags to riches between the sticks.

I think if you're serious about implementing 'the model' you don't appoint a manager/head coach who doesn't slot in to it. Although there was a little spell there with the Keane thing where I thought it wasn't clear what the model was or whether the club were serious about sticking to it.

No sniff for Dan Neil in the final yesterday. Odd.

I don't find it odd at all. He works well if we play through the middle with three, but not the way we were set up.

Who would he have replaced?

Evans? - no chance. composure personified. My MOTM
O'Nien? - no chance - does too much dirty work , defined by his end of game reducers.
Embo? - maybe. Embo has more experience and proved it with his goal, but Neil could have come on for him. However, AN's strategy was clearly to utilise the flanks with Roberts and Clarke - they protected our full-backs, occupied the Wycombe full-backs and stopped them bombing on....and provided a massive goal threat. both were unlucky not to score. Second goal started with Roberts driving down the right channel.

I hope Dan has patience, as he should blossom in the Championship when we need to up our football & use different formations.

What is this "model" and who rigidly sticks to it at all costs , just out of intererst .
Well, its what they were talking about with the director of football and all that. The best examples are Ajax and Barcelona. The club has an identity through the type of football it plays. Every team from youngest age group up plays in the same way, so that players coming through the system are ready to slot into the 1st team. Managers are appointed on their suitability to fit the system, not necessarily on what they've done elsewhere. Initially, KLDs lot, Speakman etc, were making noises about that being the direction we were heading.

I remember Roy Keane getting 50k a week and it being a huge wage. Average Premier league player warming the bench these days!

Beyond belief now. I mean at 27 when he's in his prime, what on earth will he demand when this contract is up? e

I should have worded it better, I find his lack of game time odd overall. Lack of started around the same time clubs higher up the pyramid started getting linked with him, one of whom is now a Championship club so that wouldn't make much sense, but it's more so when Villa got mentioned. We'll wait and see I suppose. Things can change quickly, look at Evans, public enemy number one 4 weeks ago, now he's the linchpin. Funny old game.

With all due respect to where we've just came from, we need to be looking to recruit from above. Signing Leauge one players in leage one is one of the factors why we struggled. Wasn't until we went and loaded Premier leauge players and signed the likes of Robers etc that's we've managed to get a balance and eventually promotion. No good going to sign a load from leauge one in the Championship.Imo like

Agreed. His time will come

hed be announced quickly as the deal is already on paper just needs to be activated. From what Gooch said it sounds like they’re all meeting to discuss futures today so I guess we may hear today.

I would be massively surprised if we hear anything this week, unless the club had previously given each player 'league 1' terms and a 'championship' terms. Each player will try to get the max, club will try to pay the min. It will take weeks for them to decide where to meet in the middle.

Only exception is Roberts, if he's prepared to take the extension on the agreed terms (unlikely).

So, your choice. You can either spend the next couple of weeks saying "are we there yet?" or cool your jets, bask in last Saturday's result and THEN start getting stressed

thats what I meant by my post. We might hear about Roberts as soon as today. The rest will be later. But at the latest we will find out who’s been offered a deal and who hasn’t by Thursday as we have to publish the retained list

Roberts doesn’t have the option to reject the terms on the extension. It was our option not his, so the terms are defined

so, 'scuse my ignorance... If a player is out of contract and the club has/will offer terms, what does the retained list say?

retained list says which players remain under contract, which have been offered new terms and which are released.

Roberts has already agreed a contract which allows us to extend it - so the retained list will tell us he’s either under contract or released. No negotiation needed.
