Sunderland AFC’s 2022-23 squad numbers have been confirmed ahead of the upcoming Sky Bet Championship season. New faces Dan Ballard, Aji Alese, Alex Bass and Ellis Simms have been allocated their numbers, while several players have switched ahead of the new campaign. Patrick Roberts penned a new two-year deal on Wearside and takes up the vacant number 10, as Jack Clarke moves to 20 after signing on a permanent basis. Goalkeeper Anthony Patterson takes the number 1 jersey after a breakthrough season, in which he kept nine clean sheets in 21 games as the club returned to the Championship. Defenders Danny Batth and Dennis Cirkin move to 6 and 3, vacating 5 and 17 respectively. I think AN showed last season that he will approach each match as it comes and his tactics and formations will be suited to the opponents so we approach games in the right way, I know that he has a preferred formation but he will change if he believes it is good for the result and to be fair he did that a fair few times last season
First time I've seen Christmas mentiond. Is it really that bad? Alex Neil didn't seem to know what the problem was other than a heel injury. They must know more than that surely.
I read the other day he had a stress fracture then when he was coming back got the same but in both heels I think
Interested to know how much say the players have on their squad numbers. Can they request their preferences or are they assigned regardless.
A Bizzare, Unusual one Back in March, Neil explained: "Unfortunately, Niall has got a really strange injury - it's highly unusual. He's basically damaged his heel doing his rehab coming back [from the back injury]. "It was not through contact - I don't know exactly what it is, it's a really bizarre injury"
Yeah, that's all I've seen about it. Don't know if it's a broke bone, snapped tendon, pulled achilies or anything. They must know more than they are letting on.
Off the top of me head I can’t remember but the way it was worded I’m sure they ment stress fracture in both heels but I could be wide of the mark I’m sure someone will know and correct if I’m wrong
