The problem with this is his talents have been confined to the Spanish 2nd Division and reserves and if he was any good surely a Spanish La Liga team would have had him by now, especially as he's 25 years old.

Lol - I'm not sure we should be paying much mind to a rumour that's likely from an agent. If he signs, we can question the wisdom. But until then it's nothing.

Thing about the purple model is we should be able to afford several extra purple players with the extra £25-£30m/year in TV money. That's 5 or 6 players on £100k/week. There's no excuse really. Ben Arfa will be moved on though as much because he is coming in to the last year of his contract as they have given up on him providing more for the team.

I'm not convinced that's how it is. I think we have eleven players who are considered purple, no more, no less - that's the quotient. We then have a "squad" of players behind the first XI who are a mix of cr@p (Elliot) and 'development' (Armstrong). There is not a model in place at Newcastle that allows us to have two "first eleven" players vying for the same position. Hence why there was no-one when Cabaye was sold, no-one at all. The problems associated with this are both numerous and obvious, and of no concern whatsoever to the owner who has probably worked out that paying for a decent first eleven will all but guarantee survival, with no threat of winning anything.

Lee Ryder never makes an interesting point though. We need to offload these two underperforming wasters at all costs. We have limited resources and these two are just sucking good money out of the club. Finding buyers will be nigh on impossible for them and Obertan. Clubs have more sense.

Bendtner could be entirely possible considering he's out of contract and on a free. I'd rather we didn't sign him, like.

This Cabella fee is always going to be a drawn out affair with that twat at Montpellier.

Newcastle United are confident of completing the signing of Tenerife striker Ayoze Perez – and it has emerged that Montpellier star Remy Cabella is also keen on the move to Tyneside.

Nothing has been agreed by either Newcastle or Montpellier in terms of a fee after the Ligue 1 club felt that United’s opening bid was below his valuation.

But it is understood that Cabella, who could yet go to the World Cup if Franck Ribery drops out with a back injury, was happy with the terms suggested by the representatives, while the idea of regular first-team football in the Premier League sells itself.

That would mean United would just have to thrash out the transfer fee and complete the deal with his agent in terms of fees.

But the bid for Perez is much further down the line.

And while Newcastle have a “never-say-never” attitude on deals after seeing some transfers collapse in recent times, they do hope to push on in due course with Perez.

The Spanish Segunda Division outfit finish their season with a game against Sporting Gijon on Saturday.

Perez has had a stomach muscle problem and is likely to miss out, meaning he could have played his last game for Tenerife.

The Chronicle understands that Newcastle United managing director Lee Charnley has pushed hard to see the deal through for the 20-year-old, and the transfer is all but done.

Perez is out of contract next summer and the move could go through for a fee of around £1.5million.

Newcastle are working on two or three other deals – but Perez is one that they hope to get done and dusted in the next week or so.

It must be hard work making sure every transfer - even those for young backup players - drags on interminably. Charnley must certainly be working hard at it.

I wouldn't be particularly excited about Perez if we'd already been relegated. How is he any better than Adam Armstrong?

There is no point getting particularly excited about anything NUFC with MA at the top. Even in the unlikely event of us signing a couple of quality players, it will only be what has been calculated as the minimum required to avoid relegation.

That is the excitement, I think - which comes first: Pardew sacked, Ashley selling or Newcastle getting relegated?

In my opinion, Pardew will be sacked first, then whichever half-baked idiot follows him into the hotseat will get us relegated, at which point Ashley will sell the club.
