I reckon all the out of contracts have agents that are looking for big fees as the club says. At some point somebody buckles. Either we get desperate and pay the fees we want. Or the players get cold feet about not having a club for pre-season and put pressure on the agents.

We just have to hope that no other clubs buckle before the players and agents do.

Which as valid as it is, puts us on a level playing field (or indeed behind) other clubs in the league. Which means our recruitment has to be brilliant. So we are putting all our faith in getting it right. I guess its natural as a Sunderland fan to not have too much confidence in good recruitment. But lets be patient as discussed!

One positive thing is that in this Twitter chain Nixon has said that Donald, Methven and Sartori don’t have an influence in regards to budgets etc, but I wonder if this self imposed tight budget is to do with all the out of contract players, seems this is the biggest summer there’s been for players being available on a free

I am also trying to think which clubs look stronger at this stage than at the end of the season. Wigan do, but they are starting from a very low base. Burton too. Some might be weaker. Lincoln losing Grant looks tough for them. Ipswish have signed a couple and lost a couple.

I also note Rotherham ans Sheff Wed have also not signed anyone.

It doesnt strike me that we are falling behind other clubs at all to be honest. I know we lost a load of players but most we wanted shot of. O'Nien and McGeady any league 1 club would have signed. Embleton back in. Neil, Younger, Hawkes and Patterson up from the 23s. All in all we will sign players to add and improve us and fitness wont be a problem (example Piggott training back at Wimbledon). I just reckon we are where the clubs pushing for a top 2 squad are, needing to wait for the dominoes to start toppling at higher levels.

Has anyone heard anything regarding Sanderson.

If ever a player was a great fit for us it’s him.

No waiting to gel and a known excellent player.

If Wolves want 2 million we should bite their hands off. He will sell on for much more if the time comes.

We conceded hardly any goals when he played and our fall in form coincided with his injury. We would have been automatically promoted had he kept fit, I’m sure of that.

It’s no gamble at all. We should go all out to get him.
I think he likes it here. Is he just waiting at Wolves for something to happen.
There’s no downside and 2 million is nowt to KLD.

(Now somebody is going to tell me he’s signed for someone else)

I think that one is another "be patient" one. He's out of contract next summer so Wolves will want to sell this summer but may not be until the final week, if I were going to guess.

That said we'd be in a queue with about 20 other clubs at this price.
 
I’m disappointed we’ve not made an immediate impact in the market. I know we have to be patient but if our owner is a loaded as stated, what’s an extra 50k here and there to get new players in. Feels like we won’t have a team assembled until after the season has started, potentially meaning we drop points. Then end of the season, every game gets tagged with the importance of a cup final and must win games. Hopefully a couple are in within the next week.

Firstly, I don't believe for a second that KLD has come here to throw his money around, certainly not in League One anyway - not sure where you get the "50k" from, but I very much doubt any deals are being held up over that sort of money. The season is 4 weeks away and like it or not, we have the core of our squad already. We need to strengthen in some areas (full back, centre half) but it feels as though the intention is to (finally) use the academy - players such as Patterson, Younger, Almond, Dyce, Neil, Embleton, Diamond, Hawkes, (Ellis) Taylor and Kimpioka will be part of the first team squad this season - and it's not before time. There's no point having a Cat 1 Academy if you don't use it in League 1

I’d be shocked if Sanderson wasn’t playing championship football next season.

And rightly so! We’ll obviously sign players but there’s loads of work to do.
