As far back as I can remember that has been the case hasn't it. Sometimes it worked (Keane?) but most of the time it didn't.
We gave the championship a five match head start a few years back and still won it at a canter.
Why? We brought the right players in on deadline day. Several weeks after the season started.

Hopefully they will and then we have a settling in period of adjusting to team mates, tactics and fitness levels not to mention the personal side of things like a new house, uprooting family/schools etc..
Thats why teams get a window before the season to do shyte like that.
If we were only minus 1 or 2 players id be ok with that, but we need to sign half a team ffs
