I wouldn't DARE post this on RTG. But a starting line up against Wigan of the below wouldn't be a complete disaster. And I still have faith we will get a "proper" right back in before then as well, and perhaps an extra forward option. Ideally an extra CB but I'm kinda resigned to Flanagan starting the season

Burge / Patterson

Winchester
Flanagan
Doyle
Gallacher

O'Nien
Evans

Gooch
Embleton
McGeady

Stewart
Where does Pritchard fit in when fit?

We need to remember SAFC is operating under a tight and sustainable budget. Supporter expectations need to be checked.

The owners are not going to throw lots of money at this. Previous, financial decisions and disasters are still very much in play and hurting the club tremendously.

We will lose a lot of money this year and going forward.

We've not signed a lot of our top targets and are working away down the list. As a supporters group, we need to recognise this is a journey and try to be as competitive as we can

That first sentence of this last paragraph is like a dagger to my heart man :(

"Try to be as competitive as we can" doesn't sound like a good strategy to me.

Couldn’t disagree any more. We’re facing a fourth season in League One ffs. Unacceptable.

I was feeling strangely positive and optimistic today until Wheatsheaf posted that we are making our way down our list of targets as we keep missing out and that we are going to try to be as competitive as we can.

I'm sure he meant it to re-assure people but for me its done the complete opposite.

The reality of the situation is SAFC is going to lose between 8/10 million this year.

I just feel like overall people are accepting things not being good enough because of the ownership. We didn’t accept **** under Donald and co so I don’t know why people are now. A good goalkeeper looks like Jon McLaughlin, Lee Burge is no where near that standard.

Burge isn’t as good as McLoughlin, you’re right, but, imo he isn’t as bad as some make out and he certainly isn’t the reason we leaked goals time after time last season.
I would like to judge him after seeing a competent, settled defensive line.
No-one who’s unhappy with Burge has been critical of his shot stopping ability?

Is this because they have turned us down or are financially out of reach? Or is there a "yet" to go on the end of the first bit?

To be honest I think he only had one season higher than League One and that was with Burton who released him. If he's a much higher standard he certainly hasn't made the most of his career.

Yep. Jon Mclaughlin, who joined Rangers to cement his way into the Scotland squad but ended the season 2nd choice keeper behind 40 year old Alan McGregor at Rangers. Not putting Mclaughlin down, as he is a better keeper than Burge, but he hadn't got a great league career behind him as he's spent most of his career at this level.

We need to get out this league ffs not become the level we want to remain at. We are desperately short on players and it needs sorting

i have always said you need a solid, regular back 5...our defence was swapped around so much last season due to the injuries that they did, indeed, seem to lose track of where they needed to be, with a lack of confidence in each other i honestly believe this feeds back to the keeper.

you could see this with liverpool, from a title winning team to playing catch up once they lost van dijk, after that they rarely had a settled back line and it showed...also, we are talking premier and international class in there and they struggled.
Good post and spot on mate
