I’m not saying he wasn’t atrocious, but I think our defenders especially had very little if any form after having three managers who all wanted something slightly different (weirdly)… I agree he had several shockers but could if managed and coached correctly do a job for us….
Think Winks at £10m is good business personally. Definitely good enough for the championship imo and would have been a good replacement for JWP.
Pretty sure we were linked with him last summer and the response was very positive. Not from me though, I’ve always thought he was ****.
I'm resigned to losing plenty of players and looking forward to seeing the back of a few but if we lose Alcaraz, Tino and ABK as well as Lavia, JWP, KWP things are starting to look a bit grim on the south coast.
With Havertz, Maddison and now the Rice saga looking like it's finally coming to an end. Hopefully it's the start of the domino effect and things start to happen. 36 days until we KO the season against Sheffield Wednesday!
I agree. But all those deserve to be playing at a much higher level than the Championship, and so probably will. Tbh I'm more concerned about losing the likes of Che, Tella, Sulemana, Perraud. Would leave us very thin on next level quality
For JWP it hinges on who West Ham go for as Rice replacement. They have been linked with JWP but also Palhinha from Fulham (who I guess were lining JWP up as his replacement too). If West Ham go with someone who isn’t JWP or Palhinha and therefore Fulham don’t want JWP then I can’t really see where else he would go for the £30m+ we would want. And as Schad says we need to be selling a lot due to the Championship FFP rules. If JWP were to stay then I don’t know if the others who will leave (Walcott, Ely, Orsic etc) will be enough to get us compliant when you factor in some signings as well.
Suspect ABK is gone, and understandably so with it being a Euros year. Back to Germany. The other two, I’m really, really hoping we can persuade to stay.
I can see West Ham bringing in a few midfielders to try and replace Rice, and they'll have the money to do so. Not sure JWP would go for the Fulham move anyway, probably just as well staying here. His PL options do seem quite limited as Newcastle seem to be looking elsewhere. Different type of player but Spurs have just bought Maddison. Liverpool want a midfield shakeup but they'll be after better players but again they'll probably bring a few in. I don't know enough about how much we'd need to make in sales and wage bill reduction for FFP but given the amount of players we are likely to move on I don't see it being an issue. Lavia alone will bring in a big chunk and theres plenty of others that will be £10m-20m range should they go. Walcott and Ely likely to be among our higher earners (Walcott especially) are already off the wage bill as of tomorrow. We could really do with finding a home for McCarthy and his wages. Just want things to get moving now really as expect a lot of outs and a few ins will make a big difference to what RM has to work with going into the season.
I'm not entirely sure about the EFL financial regulations but from what I've been reading it's the following: - Reports due in on March 1st - A maximum loss of £5m per year (or £13m per year if an owner tops it up) - Averaged over the course of 3 years We get a 55% parachute payment in the first year, 40% in the second and 20% in the third. I'm assuming that in the first year, we can't in any way be sanctioned for being over the allowances because it is averaged over 3 years. We could go all or bust! (I'm not advocating we should btw!) If the above is correct, and no transfer fees are involved, I don't think we'd need to lose tonnes of first teamers to get us down to the 55% mark. Theo, Ely and Orsic are likely to be some of the highest earners and have effectively already gone. The youngsters will be on a lot less. Lose a few more and I think we could keep a JWP. It's an offset. Adding transfer fees will only aid us in our approach. If we can recoup £70m and then spend less than £40m then we're still probably well within our bounds. Come January, if things aren't looking rosy, we still have a January window to sell prior to the accounts being due. This is all without accounting for a 3 year average. We could manage contracts on an incentive basis so that if we don't go up, all contracts reduce by a percentage in line with the drop in revenue. I know it's a simplistic approach but if approximately right, I feel it puts us in a relatively strong bargaining position. Happy to be put right on my 10 minutes of googling the rules though [EDIT] - Granted, I haven't considered the drop in commercial income but hey, I'm no CFO!
This would make a lot of sense. Perraud may or may not be off, but he had his fair share of injuries last season anyway, and Larios has been out long term injured too.
