We’re talking about JWP on our board. I can’t see us actually being interested in him. Probably lazy journalists or agents trying to drum up some interest because they know we are looking at midfielders. We need a rebuild in midfield and the 3 targets we’ve been heavily linked with are Max at 24, and Thuram and Kone in their earlier 20s. Why we’d then spend any money on a 28 year old who would need to be replaced in a year and wouldn’t even get into our current midfield despite its issues is behind me.
Yeah Prowsie simply isn't good enough for you lot. Might upset a few Saints fans by saying it, but it's the truth. He's become a very negative player over the last season or two. Maybe Klopp could train it out of him.
That for me is the question. Stick him a 'forward momentum' team with a good manager, or somewhere like Brighton, it would be interesting to see if his game adapts. I think he has the ability for it to adapt, and were he to become more progressive, he'd be quite the player.
The one thing Nathan Jones did which I actually liked was play JWP further forward. Shame about everything else he did.
Problem is his age. Without meaning to sound disrespectful he’s probably missed his chance to move to a ‘better’ club with potential to win something. Given his age, can’t see any of the top teams going for him so best he’s probably looking at is one of the clubs that fighting for a potential EL/ Conference spot (and I know we are in that comp now, but speaking more of a West Ham/Brentford/villa type).
He's only 28, not 38, and has an incredible engine. Look, I don't think he's right for you either (you'd be better going for Lavia), and he's more likely to go to West Ham/Brighton/Newcastle than your lot. But age is the least relevant reason he's not.
Was probably the only way they could get those players to join was to assure them that they could definitely leave if Leeds went down
I mean it’s a tactic I use in football manager a lot. Give a player a relegation release clause of £0 to lower their other demands knowing that I won’t get relegated. I guess it is a way to lock in in real life that you will let players leave if you do go down, rather than going “we give you our word….” Type stuff you hear about every summer.
Probably something similar. It’s not a bad tactic really as players like Gakpo will have big concerns with joining a team like Leeds/Saints in case they get relegated and they get stuck. This gets rid of that. And from the owners perspective the more “Gakpos” you can attract the less likely relegation becomes.
it’s Panto season already for all the negativity about JWPs negative passing, he regularly heads up the chances created stats and that’s not just from set pieces. Liverpool should be buying players ready to perform straight away instead of up and comers, unless they want to remain irrelevant for a few more seasons
