seriously, if I was in a position like them then the job would go like this.
Talk to club with first offer and ask for permission to talk to player.
Talk to player and give him an outline of what we were prepared to offer (along with a view of how we intended to use him and what he could gain from the move).
Tell the player that his agent was his employee and we were prepared to negotiate a contract with him but his payment was down to the player.
If the player was then offered a great contract but didn't like paying his agent fees then we would move on to the next player.
Players need to learn that they are in charge of their lives and the agent is there to advise them (and get well paid for the privilege by the player).

I watched him a couple of times last season when we'd been linked to him. Saw him in the PSG game where Lille destroyed them, Pepe scored and set up two more. I thought at that stage that somebody like PSG, Utd or your lot would come in for him.
