Not a rumour, but Plymouth are 8/11 in most places to beat Pompey tonight. Free money.

Bookies aren't stupid and know that for many clubs this tournmaent isn't taken seriously. I would wait for the team sheets before steaming in but if it is Plymouth against Pompey youth then 8/11 is very very generous!

Why this complete obsession with PL experience. Nice as it gives us a benchmark of a players ability, but everyone is a newbie initially.

You're right I suppose, its not Premier League experience, more proven top league experience. Someone like Kjaer would be fine for example. From what I've read of Yohan Benalouane (which is not a lot tbf) he doesn't sound like much of an improvement on Fonte or Jos and combined with the price rumoured I would say he looks more of a squad rotation/backup player than the more expensive, experienced CB that will ease peoples concerns.

It is Plymouth v Pompey youth. Nine players are making their debut, eight from the youth team and one goalkeeper who they have got registered in time. Most of them just played against Salisbury and lost. Appy has already said they are going to lose.

I agree we need a CB better than Jos and Jose...not denigrating them, but there is no point in signing someone not better than those we have. If that was the case we might as well have kept Martin. However, hopefully any player brought in would be improved under our set up...though that doesn't always work (e.g. Forte/de Ridder).

True and I'm not saying a players transfer value dictates how good they are as there are plenty of other factors. With our current CB situation, I wouldn't have an issue with bringing someone in as a 4th place backup and moving Seaborne on but then I would expect that player to be slightly younger (not that 25 is old!)

Judging a player you haven't seen play nice <ok>
If we sign Ramirez (doubt it) he has no Prem experience so must be just the same as De Ridder.

So the issue is who are Plymouth going to field? I'd still wait for their team news. Ladbrokes are the only firm offering 8/11 and their odds compilers are very clued up. Plymouth are only a lower table league 2 side.

Fair point, I haven't seen him play. But does a player who has made 18 starts in the last 2 years for a team that finished bottom of Serie A sound like the player to solve our current defensive concerns? I'm not completely writing him off as a player.

I already corrected myself on Premier League quality, Ramirez has already proven himself in Serie A and is a full international.

I never judge a player that plays for a crap team, there are nearly always a few jewels in average / poor teams.
As for the very few starts, was he injured? Or did he fall out with the manager? I don't really know.

Does seem farfetched if thats what you mean. I read a few posts on articles about him turning down Spurs and apparently his agent said they didn't offer him enough money (one rumour was £20k a week)..so.

Yeah apparently his agent said it wasn't enough of an increase on his Bologna wages (17.5k p/w) to warrant moving there.

Cheeky £25k from us might be enough? We can dream! If we did have a bid accepted you would expect the other interested clubs to step in and match the offer as well.
