In fairness, the whole thing started with me trying to point out that we shouldn't give a **** about how much Pogrebnyak is being paid and the only reason pass the football brought it up was for a bit of "I'm right, you're wrong you morons" gloating. I definitely don't think we should care.

And on Rodriguez, I don't think £7m (especially considering it isn't up front) is nearly as bad as they make out considering the other options.

Does bother me when Saints own fans get on NA/NC/LR's back about a lack of signings though considering the window has two months left to run...

He doesn't even know he is right tho, no wages have been said apart from Reading have reportedly said this. So basically it's a non starter. We will never know what he truly earns so that's leave it at that.

Don't say things like that, You have no idea what players we are lining up. So unless you have a source, Hush.

by that logic you have no idea what players we are lining up, so unless you have a source, hush

You could use that line of reasoning on anyone. We could be lining up Messi.

Yes, But he is a world class player out of this world.., Cortese could quite easily show a eager Johnson who gets sod all game time at man city his ambition and his future.., and sell him to be a part of history. Who's to say we won't sign someone ridiculously out of our league? We are just fans..

Johnson could be available, and if he is he would be an excellent signing for any premier league club, which is why I can't really see him coming to us.

I think wages would be more of a stumbling block then anything, but I don't think getting him in on loan is beyond the realms of possibility...then maybe after a successful season and having been drip fed the dream he signs on the dotted line...who knows, football is a crazy game. At the moment he is a bit of a forgotten man when at one point he looked like a future England starter. I think he would fit in well with the Southampton way, but whether we are even in for him in the first place is doubtful I suppose.

I cant help but think we will bring in a big name this window. Our owners are richer than most clubs, and with NCs confidence that we will never be relegated, he surely must be planning something big. Perhaps an adam johnson/michael owen isnt out of the question.

Johnson yes, Owen no. But even then a loan so as to not upset the wages. We've worked too hard to blow it on one man if you ask me.

Why not Owen? He'd walk straight into the starting 11 of any bottom half team. Wages would be an issue though

I'd rather not see Owen join when we have 4 strikers contending for starting spots. Big money on a player we don't need who might not be good enough any more. Avoid.

Yup. Im not sure why we are signing Buttner for the same reason that its a position thats not really in need of enforcing, but we've had that discussion. We just better hope Owen goes to a top half club and not to a Reading, Norwich, West Ham, Wigan etc, or our lives will be made harder

At least Buttner isn't joining a position where we have 4 people competing for 2 spots. If we signed Owen it'd either be a huge middle finger to our best player over the last 3 years, or to our new 6-7m signing.

You've basically just answered your own question. Plus the fact we don't need a striker, and he's not the type of player (over 30, short term option, injury plagued) that we want or need.

Our need for an experienced premier league standard striker who will be garanteed to score us goals would only be short term though, while we survive and establish ourselves in the premier league. The wages would be worth it to massively improve our chance of survival.

But i agree his susceptibility to injury at this stage in his career would probably be too big a risk.

I still think we will sign a big name player to really show our ambition

At lb where he apparently plays best we already have 4 players competing for one spot. And at lm we have one, and another who is capable available for one spot
