If he's as good as people are saying then fair enough.

I can't stand people that rate players purely based on FIFA stats like some people do... <doh>

One rumour that was on Twitter earlier was that Mariappa was going to sign for us, with Barnard going the other way on loan.

Yeah, the most accurate method to rate players is by using the online game,Football manager.

Reported in Dutch press (dated 2/7) that Buttner favours Southampton. It is beautiful with a lovely stadium and Nicola Cortese wants to beat Man City, he is quoted as saying. His club have reportedly turned down a Fulham offer of 2 million euros.

A Dutchman has translated that article for Saints fans:

Büttner: "Southampton wants to chase Man City."

Alexander Büttner currently only has one wish: that Vitessse reaches an agreement with Southampton to seal his transfer. The leftback trained on Sunday for his employer from Arnhem, but there's a real possibility that that was the last time.

"I want to go to Southampton", as the defender said curtly (loosely translated here). "I am waiting to see if the clubs reach an agreement, but I count on Vitesse's cooperation. Büttner has a contract that expires at the end of the season and can count on the interest of several clubs. Southampton was taken over by a billionaire in 2009 and got promoted to the Premier League last season.

The Saints appear to be willing to pay the most under the leading of the billionaire. "It would be a very big disappointment if this didn't happen" says Büttner. "I've been in Southampton and everything - even the living conditions - is perfect. The club, the stadium and the reception really surprised me. Beautiful. And Southampton has major ambitions. With the new backer they want to chase after Man City."

The upside of chasing foreign players: Cortese's conviction in stating that our newly-promoted team, not long from League One, has ambitions of chasing the champions is met with "that sounds like something I want to be a part of!" rather than "this man is clearly off his rocker."

Again, Cortese is a madman, and I love it.

Sounds like our kinda guy :-). Do we think he would play LM and lallana will switch to the right? Or a roaming role?

Possibly. On Solent the other day Lallana mentioned "there will be times where we need to use a midfield of five".

Maybe: Buttner, Cork, Lallana, Schneiderlin, RIGHT MID

Lallana could be the attacking outlet in the middle of the park to get around Lambert when attacking.

We'll certainly need to get used to that to keep more possession. Rodriguez and Lee could play as wide-forwards if we wanted to atrack more.
