I saw Davis in the shop I work in about 3 weeks back. I was on a different till so couldn't ask him anything about joining Saints as there were rumours a while back. His fiancee is from Ballymoney where I work and he was buying wine, he always seems to be about. One time I was playing football on the astro turf at the local leisure centre and there he was playing tennis in the court near us with a friend of his. Next time I see him I'll ask! He seems to fly back to Northern Ireland quite often and with Southampton having a local airport I guess it would make the deal feasible.

We will sign atleast one premier league experienced 30+ year old player. Probably in CB although a string pulling CM would be good too.

Those thinking we'll stay up with a team of mostly 22-26 year olds (plus lambert) who have mostly never played premier league football need to realise its extremely unlikely.

Yes you need the youth (Rodriguez, Ince, Jarvis, Lallana, Cork, Schneiderlin etc), but you also need a couple of experienced hands (feet) who have done it all before to act as the core spine of the team (the Upsons, Duffs, Murphys, Scholes, Delaps, Etheringtons, the Scottish guy they sign on The Damned United..). Infact, Scholes was brought out of retirement for EXACTLY that reason.

Its a romantic idea thinking that we are somehow above signing anyone 30+ and will do well with a team completely made up of of 22-26 year olds (the so called "Southampton Way") , but i challenge you to find one single premier league team who does.

Id like to see us sign Upson, or someone Upson-esque, and a Danny Murphy-esque CM to pull the strings and lead and organise the team. It staggers me that people are thinking we are above signing Seedorf...

really good points, particularly on Seedorf, ...... but what's happening with the parrot?

Totally agree with this. The way we've operated in recent years has always been to have experienced heads there to guide the younger players. The likes of Connolly and Jaidi, were signed with this in mind and Davis's recall from the West Ham medical falls into the same category. We are not above signing older players and someone like Seedorf would be outstanding in that role, not that we have a chance of getting him!

I don't mind signing older players as long as they are good enough and aren't going down hill. Svensson,Duff,Upson and Murphy are all past it imo, Seedorf would be great but I think he will go to a club in the middle east for the final few years of his career.

Flamini would be a good should. Whether we could afford his wages is there to be seen..

Yeah, though I can see us breaking our wage structure for someone like him. It's hard to see how any of our current players could argue with a player like Flamini getting paid more than everyone else.

Seedorf might be getting on, but he still has an awful lot of quality and experience to bring to the table. Some people seem to be linking top level experience with inflated egos, and while that may be true in some cases, they aren't all like that and a sweeping generalisation is silly. I don't know Seedorf personally, but he comes across well on TV and my impression is that he'd be a good person to have at the club. He woul certainly raise our profile on the continent and worldwide.

Seedorf has said he's not interested in money or trophies because he already has all of that.

Personally, I would jump at the chance to sign Seedorf, as mentioned already he comes across as a great bloke who has experience at every level. Would be fantastic for the youngsters and I am sure Hoovield would love it to. Not to mention, Cortese wants Saints to be a worldwide brand, Seedorf would certainly help in that department. I really wouldn't write this one off because I see us as one of the teams that could possibly tempt him to join.

Seedorf is a top bloke, there doesn't seem to be much doubt. I seem to remember him being involved (still?) in making sure that there is some football oriented legacy in South Africa, as certain sections of society there are somewhat ignored and didn't benefit much by the competition! I wouldn't grumble if we signed him. Seems unlikely though. I'm assuming that he's still fit and able. Looked good in the England versus ROW game!

Ideally want any new signings to take a full part in preseason, so should see activity soon (as several others have said), but things don't always work out as planned. Adkins has been positive before during transfer periods, but it always seems to take longer than thought. And sometimes we are forced to sign third-choice players like Jos<laugh> Hope they all work out as well.
