Peter White - journo covering the South Coast put a cryptic clue out about Saints' top goalkeeping target:

"Not everything is black or white!" - Rob Green?

Now confirmed by White as Rob Green.

He turned down West Ham as they wouldn't offer him 50k a week. So doubt it very much, wouldn't want a player on double what Rickie is on anyways.

If the brief is to go for a keeper to push kelvin then I suggest that Butland is the ideal keeper. Young, learning and seemingly very talented.

If the brief is to go for a top keeper to ensure points at the top level then McGregor from Rangers is a top top keeper and will be available I owuld imagine. Craig Gordon would also fit in nicely although is injury prone (but with KD as number 2 this might not be such a big risk).

Didn't McGregor do that stupid two-fingers stuff when he was on the bench for Scotland? I don't think we need idiots like that thanks.

you may be right PTF, but have you ever done anything wrong? Made a mistake? Had a regret? Don't forget these guys are young men and a little bit of ill thought encouragement from his mate while sat on the bench may not have helped.

If you/we are to chastise every minor misdemeanour, then no-one will be good enough. If he has done something worse, then fair enough... but an immature two fingered gesture (done fairly descretely, if I recall)???

get a grip.

Get a grip? <laugh>

It was not discreet he sat there for the whole match with the V-sign in front of his face! It was disrespectful and stupid and he was rightly given a lengthy ban by the Scottish FA.

And the reason he was dropped in the first place was because he spent the whole night boozing in the hotel bar after a match, until lunchtime the next day! Such a lack of discipline and respect for authority is not something I would welcome to our club.

Oh, and no I have never made a mistake of this magnitude, I don't think many people have!

I think it was Burley who banned him from international football for life when he went out on the booze with some of his team mates too. :p

Mind you, he seems to have done nothing wrong recently, I don't see a reason why he'd be a poor signing. Pablo Hernandez said he'd be world class. ;)

Burley prob had the arse as he didn't get an invite and missed a night on the sauce!! Haha

The Times says JRod had medical yesterday and is in talks with possible announcement on Sunday. Same as we've read elsewhere, but at least it's The Times saying it:smile:

Very unusual to have a medical before talks have concluded. Most sources seem to agree that he stayed in Southampton over night though so that seems pretty positive.

Not anymore, I don't think - besides, it makes more sense this way as it's like "checking the goods" before you buy them.

Eh? You'd still have a medical before the transfer is concluded. All these deals are done pending a successful medical, if you fail the medical then you don't get the transfer. But the usual way is to do everything else first then the medical is the final step.
