Not a rumour, but I'm not starting a new thread for it - Simon Gillett and Brian Howard have gone to Spain as triallists for Portsmouth. None of the current last 8 senior Pompey players have gone. Appleton hopes they will have departed the club when he getsback.

Shame on you Mr Gillett

Seriosuly, who the **** is going to want to join Portsmouth in that state!?

Surprised Gillett was released, as he was their player of the year up at Donny

Must be that he wanted to leave or they couldn't afford him. I used to like Donny's team, but they messed it up with those short-term signings. And they've lost Coppinger as well.

He said on twitter that the club hadn't given him any contract offer to accept or decline, which is really odd because he was their best and most consistent player last season. He is definitely championship standard and he can do so much better than Pompey.

As Joe says, I imagine Gillett wanted to leave, and probably more specifically move South. I think both He and Howard would be good for Pompey, but if I was looking for a move back South and needing a club, I'd check if Bournemouth or perhaps Swindon wanted to take a look, first.

Gillet didn´t want to leave. Here are a few of his tweets:

-To people asking,I have not been offered a contract at ‪#DRFC‬ there4 there has never been a deal 2 turn down or decision 2 make
-I'm not sure for the reason but I had a great time at ‪#drfc‬ and was proud to pull on the shirt every time I did so
-unfortunately it was the clubs decision 2 release me which is their prerogative,I respect that & will there4 have 2 move on

Baffling decision, but I'm sure they had a reason

Oh well, if you're forced to leave then come home, I suppose. Pompey being as close as he can get. As I said before, I'd knock on Bournemouth or Swindon's door first.

Swindon would be an interesting one. He's from Oxford and his family are Oxford fans I heard so Swindon would be a 'interesting' move.

They probably just had to cut down on outgoings after their relegation, like most clubs do.

im living near Doncaster and they are financually strapped for cash too ,Council own ground and rent it to the club,no money behind them thats why they had lots of loan players last season, but as said by others would have thought Gillet could do better than Pompey, maybe family reasons to come back south, had he wanted to come to Saints when we were in portsmouth position am sure fans would have been delighted,so good luck to him and Portsmouth i for one hope they can turn things around
