What they want is irrelevant they will have to if they want to be at a club competing. The club can't reply on players like Dummett to fallback on if we get one injury if it wants to move fwd. They'd both play games and get minutes
Its not always about fitness either. The 2 of them are different types of wing back with Targett being the more defensively minded of the pair. Which sounds bonkers when you consider who Lodi play under at present.
I'm surprised Dummett is getting a new contract tbh (if he really is). If you want to rely on that level of player for a "squad player"/back up then you may as well put Hayden and Lewis back in the squad.
Indeed Howe would have options vs different teams and can decide which player to field vs different players etc..
He already signed the new deal. Why? Neither of them count towards the home grown quota required for European competition. It's why Woodman/Dummett/Longstaff's will remain at the club. Personally Woodman would be first out for me out of them 4. In addition you need local lads to show new signings the surroundings etc to help gel the squad.
He signed new deal at beginning of the month. think it was a 12 month extension. These players are needed in the background to help gel new arrivals. You can't just ship out 10 players that have been integral to the dressing toom for years despite how ****e some of them may be perceived by some to be.
Not really because Dummett can play lb or cb and he offers something off the pitch. Full back is no different to the striker position you need more than Wilson backed up by Gayle for example
GK - £25m CB - £30-40m LB - £15-30m R/LW - £30-40m CF - £40-50m £140-160m spend is where I see it ending up. It all depends on outgoings though. LB for example - Dummy signed a new deal, Trippier and Manquillo can play there, Lewis wasn't registered - So I think you'd look to sell/loan Lewis and Manquillo and buy one LB (Targett/Lodi). CB again - Fede, Clark have a year left on contract and Lascelles has a few more years left. while we have Dan Burn and Schar past that, plus dummy can play there so we need shot of 2/3 to sign one. We will get rid of possibly 10-15 this year (Darlow, Gillespie, Woodman, Fede, Clark, Lewis, Lacselles, Krafth, Shelvey, Murphy, Hendrick, Ritchie, Gayle, Hayden). and if all of those left you'd still have a 25 man squad looking like: GK - Dubravka, GK, GK RB - Trippier, Manquillo CB - Schar, Burn, CB, CB, Dummy LB - LB, LB CM - Bruno, Joelinton, Willock, Longstaff, Longstaff, CM RW - Fraser, Almiron LW - ASM, LW CF - Wilson, Wood, CF Not sure we will bring in 9 new players so maybe some of those in the list to go would stay, someone like Gillespie or Woodman to stay as 3rd choice keeper and Lacselles as 4th choice CB or Shelvey in CM for example.
I reckon we'll get rid of Woodman, Darlow, Lewis, Manq, Clark, Fede (will retire. led to believe he has an injury he's not going to recover from at his age), Hayden, Miggy, Gayle. Can see those who have some sort of leadership qualities staying. Some of the players available on Free Transfers is still nuts...... Onana, Lewis Phillipe, Tarkowski, Kessie, Dybala, Bellotti etc.
That's not including the "Geordie Maradona" of League 2. Think he should be loaned out again next year to one of the smaller teams in the Championship. Awaits suggestions
Keep Hendrick and Ritchie? Personally I'd keep Miggy and look to ship of Fraser and Murphy before him. I think this thread is going to be a load of nonsense come the beginning of next season - We'll buy 4 first teams for £80m combined and have 8 out on loans until their contracts finish. Only Targett and Longstaff are the only players out of contract this summer and can't force them to move on if they can't agree a deal unless they agree to have their contracts paid upfront and leave on free's. Might win the U23's league though...
