if Basil continues knocking in the goals (and doesn't get himself sent off!!), he could be worth a lot more in January.
There were stories doing the rounds yesterday that Farke wanted to keep him but was almost overruled by the rest of the board?
Why, though? Because of his value or because of his petulant celebration after scoring v Fulham (?)
If the former, stupid, as we'd never replace him on deadline day without paying more or getting a lower grade of player. <ok>

Oh well, I'd say that yesterday turned out to be a bit of a 'damp squib' as far as CJ and Basil are concerned and as Chris Lakey says in his article - 'roll on January' and if Basil continues knocking in the goals (and doesn't get himself sent off!!), he could be worth a lot more in January.

I was very confident of Nelson remaining with us, FML makes me laugh, how has this been a typical NCFC window? We did most of our dealing in the first couple of weeks, I can't remember that EVER happening before! ;)

Also the most players we have ever signed in a single window I believe.

We bought CB's (multiple), that's different.

We offloaded deadwood for the first time in quite a few years

Exactly. <applause> (and that goes for the board [and Delia]) Please note KIO.

Now the window has actually closed, I'm feeling quite confident that we'll certainly be in the top 10 by Xmas. Some of our tougher games are behind us and I think DF has woken up as to how tough this league is. Hopefully, he'll be able to instil some defensive qualities in the players before 3pm next Saturday!!!

Now onto the next match against Birmingham City at CR. New CB pairing of Klose and Hanley? No Russ Martin in the starting line up? Nelson up front with? in a 4-4-2 formation. Am I only dreaming?

I'm happy with this window. Hanley rounded it off nicely and we kept our strikers.
I don't get all this love for Hanley (not aimed at you, Rick) Last season at Newcastle he managed a princely 15 appearances in all competitions, and 5 of them were as sub?
Out of a 50 odd game season, including both cups, what's to get overly excited about - until we see how he fits in with us?
From what we've seen so far, Franke, Vrancic and Husband all look a bit lightweight for the bluster and puff of this division, though still early(ish) days.

His last appearance was against Forest in the Carabu cup which they lost

Anyway, the good news is we can now get on with the football and ignore dodgy journals/rumours forget the twice annual appearance of the hysterical yellow tie :emoticon-0119-puke: - and put to bed all the old clichés like:
Swoop, snapped up, slammed shut, etc <ok>
But we can do it all again in January <grr>

I wouldn't be at all surprised if Rusty had a say in the Hanley signing and they will be building a team around the 2 Jock defenders with Naisy as it's heartbeat.
Fancy getting rid of Whittaker! What were we thinking of?
So, whereas Alex Neil was building a "dynasty" :emoticon-0119-puke: , Danial Farke is assembling a clan - shame we didn't swap Jerome for Chris Martin, really. ;)

In all seriousness I can guarantee that Russell Martin will be in the starting line up against Brum.

He big German will not give in to fan pressure and would rather cut his nose off to spite his face.
If I'm wrong I'll eat my hat.

Surely he'd be better starting with any permutation of Hanley, Franke, Zimmerman and Klose if fit?
If it backfires, fair enough, consider Martin again but let's see if we can eradicate soft goals by trying a different defensive combo?

I think Martin will play unless he pretends to be Injured

It's more related to pragmatism, Cromer. We need some bite in our defense.

I guess with Hanley he didn't click at Newcastle, but his previous seasons at Blackburn are also relevant.

He was an ever-present for 3 seasons there, with Whoscored averages of 7.31, 7.18 and 7.16. In comparison, none of our squad have averaged above 7 this season so far, and Martin and Ryben have never had a season average above 7. Klose did last season. Bassong managed it in one season with us.

Sure that's only one stat, but it's a good sign that he's consistently performed well in this league, and in a poor Blackburn team!

He's got the championship experience many have been calling for, and he's a good age. His best years are probably still ahead of him, and he'll have resale value. The fact he couldn't displace Clark, Mbemba or Lascelles at Newcastle doesn't worry me too much.
