'We obviously disagree, I think he's more than good enough at this level , you obviously don't , we've had many others that were going to take the number 1 jersey''.

Ashton, I also disagree but respect your opinion of Frankie.
The other keepers you refer to were, loans, out of contract, No2's/3's from elsewhere and basically none were No1 level for the Championship.
How many of the keepers who 'Frankies seen off' now play in the Championship ?
Seeing them off ? Well it was never going to be difficult.

You say : 'He's also kept his position through several different managers that see him in training everyday , so he must have something going for him'
'Several different managers', TBF he's suffered quite a long time out with injury and a lot of the time you refer to we were in L1.
It's where I think Frankie belongs.

To get to the next level I'm convinced we have to have a better keeper than Frank Fielding.

Ederson is like David Beckham in goal ... Likened to a quarter back that saves shots!

I missed your post. Regarding 66%, I cannot do the equation but consider Pep Guardiola chose to play for a season Claudio Bravo in goal. A man who was less likely to stop a shot than Joe Hart, or even Frank Fielding. The why was because he is magnificent at passing a football. In that team and with its style one of the Worlds finest coaches made a clear decision that this Keepers distribution outweighed his shot stopping.

In Bristol City case I would question how much Frankie Fielding's saves are worth v his lost possession, loss of attacking /defensive opportunity ... It cannot really be measured, but it would not be acceptable in teams of a higher level desiring to play in certain styles. And if Bristol City want to progress ...

It depends on who , if anyone leaves this summer , also which division we are in, either way to buy top end championship players, which I believe is the market we should now be looking in, ain't going to come cheap , so to spend money on an area we don't need to for now would be foolish . Should we manage to get promoted I agree with you , Frankie is not premier league quality.

You are avoiding answering the question/questions

It is mildly amusing (politely it is) that you are challenging the Master of most reticent.

No team cannot be improved. A new Keeper with better ball skills would give the team a new dimension offensively and defensively. A Dutch keeper is mentioned on the thread, it is no coincidence that Dutch and Spanish Keepers are so highly respected - Many add that extra dimension to a team 4-4-2, 4-3-3 etc becomes 1-4-4-2 as the Keeper joins in and ands possibility. That is an area to improve.

A difficulty Bristol City have had this season has been team sitting in. City experience possession but the possession becomes laboured and slow. Again working on the premise that City are to be a possession based team, working the ball through the thirds a CB that can join, step out with the ball would help the team create overloads in midfield, add Keeper allow the team to pay higher defensively/offensively.

At present Magnusson apart the CB play can be cumbersome on the ball. This may indicate why they do not show for the ball as you have implied they should. One ball winning centre half is enough. City have numerous (lose one or two) ball winning centre halve options but less who are good on the ball. Recruiting a CB play maker adds masses of possibility to an area Bristol City have a weakness.

A Italian coach says if you not look to improve you die. The academy is training kids to play much as I have described above. If this is the future recruitment works alongside the philosophy, scouting is continual, the team will always have a degree of transition ... There is always need.

He also said "If God had wanted us to play football in the clouds he would have put grass up there".

Apply that to Frankies goal kicks.

Don't go turning this into a Cardiff thread Red. The wizened one will be on to you.

To be fair, I liked Moore, he was a decent keeper but wasn't getting the game time.
Bit us on the bum as if memory recalls correctly, just after he left us, Marshall went to Hull.

Unfortunate for him if he was dropped to your no 2. That role must be one of the hardest in any team. At least if you're an outfield player you can get some time as a sub. If you're number 2 keeper you could be in every match day squad but mightn't get a minute game time.

I suppose you see more keepers playing out from the back than 20 years ago with those bobbly pitches.

I like Messi & Ronaldo but I don't see the point of putting videos up of them, showing how much better they are than some of our players.....

Dont get your hair off. it was topical. Edersons mentioned by others in the thread. i made a point that when i'm at the ground in e34 the people criticise everything. If Bristol City played like Man City people there would be shouting at them to get it up there. and Flint could hit the roof with a clearance when he could pass it but that's ok to e34. Vorm?? Swansea signed him under Rodgers. If City are trying to play their way out of the championship like Swansea did that is the type City would do well to get in goal.

Cloughie wasn't referring to goalkeepers as you well know, but outfield players. In one of your previous answers to me you suggested Peter Shilton would have to had evolved in order to play at a top club now , so I'm not really sure why you mentioned that quote as it isn't relevant.
