I see there are rumblings as to MJ future,so i suppose if there is a change at the helm the new man will have his own transfer agenda.
None at all. Nothing to lose - although if he has a nightmare it could harm his confidence but otherwise, no. I 'd love to see it, actually.
I think it would have to be Tankovic or Woodrow, really. Otherwise you're throwing them to the wolves (or swans) a little bit. The only reason I didn't say Grimmer is because it is harder to make your debut as a defender. Any mistake is magnified and we want to preserve his confidence. He deserves the chance, but maybe we should leave that for the Cottage next term?
Based on the various rumours that are around in the media and posts here, how about this (regardless of who the manager is): Signings Stekelenberger £5m Roma Riether £2m Cologne Amorbieta Free Bilbao Figuero Free Wigan Enoh £4m Ajax Or Boateng Free Dnipro Brunt Free WBA Kone £6.5m release clause Wigan Or Abdellaoue £5.5m Hanover Total £12.5m - £17.5m Team ……………….Stekelenberger…………. ..Riether…..Hangeland..Amorebieta..Figuero.. ……..Enoh/Boateng…Brunt…. ..Dejagah……Ruiz/Berba….Kaca… ………..Kone/Abdellaoue And stack the bench with youngsters, giving them regular game time to see how they get on.
Sounds good C58. What's good about Abdellaoue? I know you posted about him in another thread, and I've no reason to doubt you, but what caught your eye about him?
Revision to previous comments: I found out today (thanks, Wikipedia) that Figueroa is 30 years old. There's a limit to how many past-or-passing-their-best left backs you can have in one squad, and I think we're already at our limit. For that position we definitely need someone younger. Also Kone is 29 and Maloney 30 (I thought the latter was a lot younger than that). I'm not saying that either of the last two would be bad signings, but their age makes them less of a long-term fix than I was thinking. It's probably a mark against them if we have good, young options, but not necessarily a deal-breaker. I read today that if Benteke leaves Villa, they are looking at Dieumerci Mbokani, who some may remember us being linked with a few transfer windows ago. Maybe we should look at him again. Apart from anything else, Lambert seems to be a good judge of strikers, so if he rates him it's another mark in his favour.
Bacary Sako being linked with us now - http://www.express.co.uk/sport/foot...-Fulham-move-after-slip-from-Wolves-team-mate no opinion on him, dont think i've ever really noticed him although name is familiar.
Apparently he's highly rated at Wolves, and his injury coincided with their calamitous dip in form. However, a 'couple of million' for a 25 year old playing in League One next season wouldn't be the best bit of business. Just hope he doesn't become another Bouazza.
I think Maloney is just hitting his peak now, a little later than some others. He's not reliant on pace and has good technique- I think he would be a good addition and could move into a deeper, more central role as he gets older- eventually playing as creative CM. Depending on prices we could have a good look at a few celtic players - kayal is one I would go for, along with the keeper.
Hi guys i'm new here. I've been a Fulham fan for a while and had season tickets for 4 years now. I've been dissapointed with our season this year but i think that the Fulham board will give Jol their full backing. This is what i think our team will look like next season so far based on rumours: -------------------Stekelenburg----------------- --Riether---Amorebieta-----Hangeland---- ??? -- ------------------------------------------------ ------------Boateng-------- ??? ---------------- ---Dejagah-----------Ruiz---------Kacaniklic----- --------------------Berbatov-------------------- I've put question marks on the positions which i believe still need to be filled and i think we also need, mixed in with a couple new additions from our youth team, a new striker and cover for left back as i think Briggs is useless.
I think that's pretty accurate, n1ck. I'd say Sidwell (and maybe Enoh as well) would be other suitable candidates for that position where you have Boateng. It's the other CM position where we need to find someone, unless any one knows how we can reverse the ageing process on Karagounis? An attack minded midfielder who can give us high pass accuracy. I'd love Huddlestone or Carrick, but neither of those are realistic. One thing I think we should really work on over the summer is getting Kaca and Ruiz to change up during forward moves. Kaca looks good in the middle and plays very well off Berba, better than any one else in our squad. Ruiz looks better when he is prepared to go out wide (and cut in) as it prevents him dropping deep, which is his most frustrating tendency. I think those two can really add a dimension to our game if they get some time together in training. With the leftback position, the Liverpool game seemed to underline that Jol is aware we need to look at the LB position. Jol doesn't seem to have confidence in Riise against quick opposition, which is why he made the gamble with Emanuelson (which failed). We need someone who can give the same stability on the left that Riether gives on the right. Not sure how easy that is though; there don't seem to be many LBs available, so I think we need to trust in Jol's contact book.
I saw a Wolves-supporting friend at Church this morning. He said that Sako is one of their better players and could be a good buy. When I asked if he was Premier League quality, it prompted a thoughtful pause before my mate concluded that he could be good enough in a better team than Wolves. In a team that likes to pass the ball around (like us), he thought he'd do well in the Premier League. That pretty much squares with what Bandit said. My mate said he's probably more of a central attacking midfielder rather than a winger (I wasn't sure which he was from Wikipedia). Forget about the fact that he would otherwise be in league 1 next season, a couple of million is a decent price for an attacking midfielder with goals in him to come and compete for a place in the team, rather than one to come in expecting to play every game. If he's our only signing in central midfield, I'll be worried; if he's part of a bigger rebuilding job on the midfield I'd be cautiously happy.
Slightly Dodgy "confirmation" of Boateng http://http://www.ghanasoccernet.com/exclusive-ghana-midfielder-derek-boateng-completes-fulham-move/
