Only thing no one has mentioned is a defensive midfielder to push/challenge Gregory for the starting spot. I think Frampton will go, Payne is unlikely to come back even if posh go down. Does anyone have a definitive list of who is out of contract at the end of the season?
I think I'm right in believing BWP is a pacey striker? How would he fit in if we also sign Cody bearing in mind both would be on decent wages and probably have very similar playing styles (pacey and playing off of someone) and therefore may not be played together? That being said I think think they'd both be good players considering what we know about Cody and BWP's recent record. Not sure I necersarily believe that either deals are close though.
There is quite a lot to point towards Cody being a deal done. By all accounts they management team were talking openly about it at the POTY once they were sufficiently lubricated with free booze!
Micky Spillane and Kevin amankwaah have been released by Southend and Exeter respectively. Could be good signings.
Not sure we should be going for players that have been released at this level as we need to go to the next level.
I think we should be looking at the league one players and the odd championship player to move on to the next level
My point exactly and I think we can even look at younger players who have not made it at Premiership level.
I thought he was a wide player, can you image Weston down one wing and BWP down the other... that'll worry a defender or two
If you check the reason Exeter are releasing amankwaah is because they can't afford him. Just saying!
Still a league 2 player regardless, same reason that they may have to release Cureton and Oakley as well as the ones already going
Okay. So what if we were to go for akinfenwa? Or mcglashan? Would you not want them because they're league 2?
Not saying League Two players are bad but you don't want too many. I would not want Bayo as he has not been good this season, he has spent a lot of time on the bench so I would not want him but the likes of Jermaine McGlashan and Jacques Maghoma as they are great players at this level.
Now your contradicting yourself hoadie. You said we should look at league 1 and the odd championship. Now your saying a few league 2 are okay. I only said 2 league 2 players and you disagreed.
Yeah but them players are players who I believe are average, Maghoma and McGlashan are not, they are stand out players.
I'd like us to have different options. IF we can get Cody, we all know that he would probably need a target man to partner him. It is possible that Kedwell could fulfill that role. When we were playing 'hoofball' in the middle of the season - Kedwell won the ball quite a lot - but didn't have anyone like Cody to capitalise. If that partnership / style isn't working I'd like to see somebody like McGlashan added to the team. I believe that Cody will profit by having a bit of pace on the wings and the ball being crossed. I have always rated McGlashan - he destroyed Frampton at Cheltenham a couple of weeks ago. Not sure if he is available ( especially if Cheltenham 'fail' in the play-offs )
Seen rumours that we are after Joe Devera the Right Back at Swindon. Previously played under Mad Dog when he was boss of Barnet (2nd Spell). Also linked with Jordan Mustoe, young Wigan Left Back who's been on loan at Carlisle United towards the end of the season. I think the permanent signing of Danny East is very likely to happen even though he only made two appearances. His versatility and that he's a free agent this summer could sway MA to sign him permanently.
As this appears to be accepted as the main discussion thread by members - stuck to top of board. Good title btw.
Is it true that Gillingham are going to take Ben Arfa on loan to try and build his fitness levels up?
