Definitely, I think Ross did what I wanted him to and started the season by throwing our young players in at the deep end and seeing how they did but it didn't work and in Hume's case we clearly need a new face as the only cover we have is right footed. I think with the right management Hume will turn into a good player. I'd coach him to play it simple, he has a tendency to dribble into trouble trying to make something happen but he's got the pace and athleticism to stretch the play then pass it short to Maguire or McGeady or to make a run wide looking for a through ball for a cross.
Apparently we're signing this lad subject to him passing his medical, Ross has confirmed it. https://www.chroniclelive.co.uk/sport/football/transfer-news/jack-ross-confirms-joel-lynch-16812261 It's what I like about Ross, there's no burying his head in the sand. If we see someone not up to scratch then so does he and they get dropped or replaced. Flanagan and Baldwin are both weak for this level and Ross knows it.
Sheffield Wednesday boss rules out Morgan Fox move A move for Sheffield Wednesday left-back Morgan Fox has been ruled out by Owls caretaker boss Lee Bullen. Lee Bullen on Sunderland's interest in Morgan Fox: "He will not be going anywhere. No chance. "We have one out and out left-back. We will not leave ourselves short." #SWFC
Sunderland rejected the chance to sign Marcus Maddison Maddison, a boyhood Sunderland fan, has been linked with a Sunderland move for a number of years, but Peterborough chairman Darragh MacAnthony has revealed that the Black Cats turned down the change to sign him this summer. He told the Roker Rapport podcast: We knew we were going into the last year of Marcus Maddison’s contract and either we said to Marcus that “look, we’ll see if we can get you a move”, he’s served his time at Peterborough United in League One and if ever a player deserved to go to the Championship or a big football club, it’s Marcus - it would have to be a big football club outside the Championship. Marcus Maddison is a Sunderland fan - I think everyone knows that from when he was a kid around that neck of the woods. When we played you at our place - in April, the 1-1 - your manager had said to our gaffer ‘What a player that boy is, I really liked him last summer but we heard bad things about him and that’s why we didn’t go in for him’. That was the conversation between the two gaffers. So Barry [Fry] doing his job in June, started making phone calls because we need to know ahead of time if we are going to sell a player as we need to replace them. He made a few calls to clubs in the Championship and said ‘look, everyone knows about his release clause but if we are going to do any business with Marcus, it’s got to be in June. Otherwise we’re probably not going to do any business’. We knew Grant McCann wanted him at Hull, he got the job at the end of June. A bid that was made through his agent was derisory. So Baz rang Richard [Hill] and they had a conversation in June and I was at a waterpark in Dubai when Barry rang me. He said ‘Oh, I’ve spoke to Richard...”, I said ‘Did the Marcus thing come up?’ he said ‘yeah, I said your manager likes him, is there any interest?’ and Richard said to Barry along the lines of ‘We don’t rate him, I don’t anyway and there is no way that we will be bidding for Marcus Maddison. Obviously I’m a big Marcus Maddison fan, so I’m like ‘are you kidding me?!’ and he goes ‘no, that’s what he said!’.
Well we don’t have the cash to splash big these days but I just found out that the only football clubs to break the transfer record more times than Sunderland are Real Madrid, AC Milan, Inter Milan and Juventus.
I believe we are one of only a few ( or a few years ago it was only a few)clubs who at some stage have BOTH paid and received a world record fee .
Sunderland are plotting a last-gasp raid for frozen-out Celtic winger Scott Sinclair according to a report by Football Insider.
