We don't! Or have you forgotten we sold Allen for £15m , or Bony for £28m? Or Shelvey and Graham for a profit? We won't be letting any of our assets go on the cheap, for example turning down £7m for Ki. These rumours by the media are based on their own opinions not the clubs, I think you are reading to much into some of these reports.
A player who scored 12 goals last season in the premier league, you look at other players who scored as many and then sold to see what the rate would be. For example Bony scored about that and went for £28m, that would be a fair price
I think we have dicked this transfer window right up. Whoever decided it was a good idea to sell all our strikers before replacing them needs shooting. Clubs will know that they have us by the short and curlies as unless we pay their over inflated prices then we're basically screwed. The season starts in two weeks. Two weeks! Unless we plan on buying Bony then whoever we get isn't going to be remotely familiar with our squad and the same vice versa. We've seen how long it takes strikers to fully integrate into our squad. Surely this should have been put into motion the second we were assured of staying up, then a bid put in the day the window opened. They probably knew at the time we weren't keeping Eder and Gomis, so why couldn't they anticipate the need for a striker? Reeks of incompetence.
As I just posted on the Match Thread against Bristol Rovers, with Steve Bruce having left Hull, what's the betting that we will be chasing Robson-Kanu.....
How can you say that before the window has even closed? If by the end of it we haven't covered these positions up front then what you are saying could be true. And on the other clubs holding us to ransom if you like, other clubs would know our position already so nothing changes there. You are going on the assumption that the club are incompetent, which is not true. And on other players not knowing our game if you like, they are football players playing football, it's not exactly rocket science, if they have the ability they will be able to play football with 10 other players just fine. Surely it is about having your squad together before the start of the season, giving the squad time to gel in pre season friendlies, not panicking at the end of August because we have done nothing before. We will bring a striker in just hope it is in time for whoever it maybe to actually a little bit of an idea how we play and we can actually start the season hitting the floor running, although with about 13 days till the end of our pre season I a not so sure it will happen, yes we can bang on about how long is left, but it still smacks of incompetency as it stands at the moment and maybe in the next day or so we will have a new striker in. or instead of the end of July should it be the end of August.
If that is really the case, why do you even need a manager. Just get any old coat and send out your best 11
Because we have put ourselves in a place where we approach from a position of weakness. And now every club we have contact with has that leverage over us when negotiating a price - as if strikers weren't expensive enough anyway. Bony had the ability, still took him half a season to get going. Same applied to Graham and Scotland... (Struggling to remember any other successful strikers we have bought under our current style of play). What I'm saying is, it would have been beneficial all around to have sorted this out in May. We stand nothing to gain and everything to lose by letting it run so close to the start of the season. For me, that spells incompetence and nothing else.
There is no need for a manager in the traditional sense, as most things are done on the training fields where coaches bring many different things to the game. It's the coaches that bring things like fitness and strategy to the team.
But the most criminal thing for me is that we were in this exact same position last season! How could we not have learnt? We were told we were looking for another striker but the window closed and we hadn't managed to get anyone else in, going into the season with just 2 strikers. This year it looks like we are going full ****** and now doing it with no strikers.
No because as a coach he lost the changing room, which means the players basically mutineered on him and refused to play for the guy. Like almost everything it's player power. and I did say a manager in the traditional sense
In which window are you talking about? I gather you meant last season Paloschi - January Eder - July Whilst both didn't work out they were still here. Also we had Gomis and Emnes and a couple of youngsters. And by the way Emnes is still with us, even though he is championship level imo
Looks like Ayew may go as well, Man city, Napoli, Chelsea and West Ham all interested. if we sell him with no replacement we are truly ****ed unless it's a part of a swap deal for players like; Chelsea - Remy (decent option) City - Bony (best option) Napoli - Gabbiadini ( good player but a risk) West Ham - Valencia (hope not)
Eder and Gomis are the 2 I was referring to. Emnes we have only ever really utilised as a winger. And yes we bought paloschi in Jan but by that time we had seen a manager sacked, we had entered the relegation zone and our only 2 strikers hadn't scored in yonks. Surely the logical thing to have done this window would have been to get everything done and dusted in the striker department in advance to avoid a potential repeat scenario?
Hope he passes his medical, a season long loan with no buy option at the end, so we can only hope he does very well for them and we get a player we can then sell on. http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/36748766
