If we get injuries to Gylfi and Ayew, where are the goals going to come from!! No recognised striker if Gomis goes, so far we have brought in one extra player and that's based on Fer was with us last season. Our squad in my book isn't good enough, we got lucky last year with no injuries, but if we did, then this season we don't have the strength in depth within the squad. I see now we're after another goalkeeper, oh goodie how many will that be on the books 4/5?
Over the years I've noticed that, although not always the case but more often than not it is, the way a ream finishes the season is the way they carry that form onto the next one. We finished the season relatively strongly so I am hopeful this will be the case when the new season starts. I still think we need a new striker but other positions are pretty well covered and I don't think we should write of some of our youngsters gradually being introduced, as some seem to do, otherwise what's the point of having an academy.
We can't work with the what if we get injuries to players, we are not a club with unlimited resources, you could equally say what happens if we get injuries to the striker, or two strikers next season? We deal with it like we deal with it every season. And in terms of injuries, there is no luck involved we have some of the best experts in the premier league working at the club, it's not luck that they have very little impact to the side when they happen, but the team behind the team is very good. http://www.southwales-eveningpost.c...an-behind-it/story-29513471-detail/story.html
I happy with our squad in every position except the strikers position and that position is vital to get right. We should have been one of the first teams putting in proper bids instead of sitting back looking for the cheapest we can find while our rivals snap up all the good strikers that were out of contract or wanting a change of club. We saw what being without a good striker does when we can dominate teams and lose or draw because our finishing was very poor that resulted in losing a lot of points....We even lost to a lower league club in the cup ffs.....The way we are doing things today and last season dont show fans that we want to go for things and why we think its important to bring in another keeper is beyond comprehension when we are shy of two proven strikers that we are so desperate for and should have been the first signings we made early like our rivals did.....
Swansea outbid Lazio for Valencia By Football Italia staff please log in to view this image please log in to view this image Lazio have been outbid for West Ham striker Enner Valencia by Swansea City, claim Sky Sport Italia. The striker was a named target for the Biancocelesti over the summer, before and after Marcelo Bielsa’s hasty exit. According to Sky Sport Italia pundit Gianluca Di Marzio, Lazio risk missing out on Valencia as they’ve been outbid by Swansea. Francesco Guidolin’s club have offered €10m plus €3m in add-ons to take the Ecuador international.
Under contract by West ham until 2019 and have scored 8 times and 6 assists in 51 games and currently surplus to requirements ...his record is not that great in the premiership and probably the reason why West ham want to off load him, He may do better with us but yet again its a risk and a cheap option... Im not impressed at all if we sign him scoring just 8 times in a season and a half...
Ayew has scored 5 goals in 11 games as a striker under Guidolin , including the winning goal against Everton in a 2-1 win . Our first goal in that game was a penalty ...... Caused by Ayew and scored by Siggy . But by all means , spend a shed load of money on a # 1 striker that will have problems scoring at that pace .
Ill say again Ayew is not a striker and will not get enough goals roof....why cant you see that. Ayew is much better playing behind the striker in a more centre half position with a free reign. Look at all the top teams who have done good, they all have good strikers who would not have done well without them.
I'll say it again dai , 5 goals in 11 games as a striker under Guidolin . On top of that , when Ayew is not on the wing , other players who never scored ... Started scoring . Now you and you alike can walk past these facts with your blinders on and pretend it never happened but ....that's a fact jack . You want to spend for the sake of spending it almost seems . I know I'm almost alone on this , but it doesn't make me think I'm any less right . We have no strikers , we need a place to play Ayew , no brainer .
We never had a striker last season and look at the season we had it was crap...we threw more points away because we were so poor up front more than any other team and that's not acceptable...
How can you say our second best season in the premier league was crap? We landed up on 47 points, we only beat that tally once in 5 seasons! And we had a liability in the first half of the season, we had a great season once Monk left! As for throwing away points, back up your statement with facts, there is no truth in what you are saying that we threw away more points than any other club. This is you bending the truth, you sound like a politician trying to put statistics in a way that backs up complete lies!
Why do we look to sign strikers (if true) whose goal scoring record is no better than a midfieder or has had a really bad injury. I have to say both worry me and it seems everyone we are linked to is one or the other. I know we cant afford to spend masses but surely we can do better than a badly injured non scoring striker and the best part 10 million pounds. No Thanks.
He scored 12 last season and was our top scorer, can't see why he won't be able to match that this term.
We are not, and if you look at other premier league sides in terms of transfers you can see why. Not all teams have even started bringing in players http://www.premierleague.com/news/61463
I sometimes wonder what we mean by a striker. Do we mean someone who is a goal poacher or someone who can lead the line, not necessarily the same thing. My own preference is for the latter as he will bring other players in to the game so we do not rely on one player for the goals and he would probably ship in with a few as well. A lot will depend on Franco's style of play and tactics and we do not know what they will be yet for the coming season.
