That hottest day of the year was my brother's wedding day in Southampton. Reception was in the New Forest and was apparently, so we were told, the hottest place in the country on the hottest day. It was ridiculously hot. I remember staying at a hotel back in Southampton and the world skateboarding champion was staying there in the middle of a UK exhibition tour. He left several boards just sitting out in the corridor, I was so tempted to nick one, but me being a little angel, didn't.
