Does anyone know if the squad limit has been set for this season? It's pretty pertinent to transfer dealings after all...

Having asked the question for 2022/23 the answer seems to be.....22 with 8 of them being home grown players.....also a query over the possibility that players under twenty aren't counted.....not sure about that ?

So, remind me, what is happening with Mike Cooper and Camara.
    Did they sell ?.

    Cooper - no specific activity
Camara - made available but no takers yet - PAFC have recently said offer of an extended contract still stands

Panutche Camara's contract with Argyle ends next summer....Argyle have offered him an extended contract.....which Camara has not signed.

So Argyle have put him on the transfer list....in other words they will let him go now for a fee.....next summer he could walk away for nothing......just sensible business by Argyle to get his value now and not see him go next year for nothing.....Argyle have told him they want him to stay......whispers about offers for him but nothing concrete as far as we know.

Michael Cooper is an Argyle signed up player still.....voted best keeper in Div One and in the team of the year for the Division.......rumours of clubs interested in him.....but no offers fo him as far as we know.

Contracts generally end at the end of June.....so these two players could move on if the right offers came in for them....other players could leave if they also got offers from other clubs.

So it is hard to bring in new players if you don't know who might be leaving the club....you will obviously need to replace anyone who leaves as well has trying to strengthen your existing squad.....can be a stressful time for management.

Yes, 22 but U21s and GKs not counted in this . 8 Home grown Players (English nationality) and one club developed player (spent 2 years at the club before the age of 21) . Clubs can only change their squad list during transfer windows or under 'exceptional circumstances' (whatever they are)
This regulation was brought in a couple of seasons ago alongside the then squad salary cap. Thanks to the PFA the salary cap got binned, but this reg somehow survived. Am not a fan- it doesn't achieve much and is easy to fall foul of , with fixed fines awaiting those who fail to follow it completely. (We haven't breached it yet , but quite a few clubs did last season).

Thanks Lyndy.....straight from the horses mouth that answer.....it does sound as if you have to be on your toes all the time to stay within the rules....to make sure you don't get unnecessary fines.

The first home game on season start for years and I won't be here. Bleddy typical. Normal Boxing Day though.

Have they not realised that nobody cares about that competition yet? Shocking attendances for a nothing cup. Get rid and save the extra matches.

Worth a listen....Argyle Podcast Episode 52......About how the club go about bringing in new players

Good to hear that Zac Newton does more than just sharpen the pencils.....not even a Fax Machine to play with these days.

Miles in legs etc.....score not important....but a relief from just set training regime.
