Let's be honest here, he hight have stayed if we were still in the Prem. Same with Estupiñán. That's the brutality of going down.
Watford would obviously have been a more attractive proposition if they had remained in the Premier League, but I think that it is not certain that either player would have played here even if Watford had stayed up. Both players may have belonged to Watford, but neither player seemed to have strong ties to the club. That is the weakness of the Pozzo operating model, which treats players as commodities and loans them to other clubs (without them ever spending time at Watford). I have read that Adam Leventhal spoke with a source close to Estupinan and he was informed that it was always Estupinan's intention to move to a 'big' club after leaving Osasuna. He has also been living in Spain for six years and seems very settled there so it would have been more difficult during the Covid-19 pandemic for him to move to another country where he knows no one and does not speak the language. Suarez has a Spanish wife and it was confirmed by Spanish newspapers that this is the reason why he preferred to stay in Spain. There are now suggestions that the deal with Granada may have been planned some time ago. Does anyone remember his agent's tweet (several weeks ago) about a new adventure for Suarez at a club playing in Europe? Granada finished in 7th place in La Liga last season and have a highly rated young manager, it is a beautiful city and his wife's family live there. Perhaps his desire to move to Granada (similar to Doucouré's desire to move to Everton) may have prevented Watford from obtaining a higher transfer fee than they did. I am more optimistic about Cucho Hernandez playing for Watford if he succeeds in obtaining a work permit, although it will be more probable if Watford get promoted back to the Premier League. He tweeted last season that he expected to play for Watford this season and he visited Watford's training centre on two occasions last season while he was recovering from an operation. Neither Estupinan nor Suarez have made a similar tweet and they did not visit the training centre (as far as I aware) before this summer.
Agyakwa off to Italy on a 12 month loan - also signed a new two year contract. https://www.watfordfc.com/news/official-new-deal-loan-for-agyakwa
Adalberto Peñaranda and Jerome Sinclair have been sent out on loan to CSKA Sofia. Wasn't a player there that we wanted in? CSKA is an abbreviation for Central Sports Club of the Army! Hope they can install some disciplin in Adal....
The connection: "The two have joined the Bulgarian First League team, where current sporting director Cristiano Giaretta worked prior to his arrival at Vicarage Road, for the remainder of the current campaign."
This looks to me that Gino has said to Dad that he has these players that the club cannot afford to keep, so can you take them off my hands please. It is known that the Pozzos regard England as the place with the money, so it becomes vital that the club is nursed through the current difficulties.
That's unsurprising. It's a shame, he offered something and I definitely think if we had stayed up he would have been a very useful player for us. If only his cheeky backheel against Arsenal had gone in....
On 100k a week apparently! No wonder we wanted him out! As you say didn't fully see the best of him sadly.
So many different takes on what he was earning. Some said 70k, there was a rumour he was on a pay as you play contract because of his injuries ( highly unlikely I think) and you have heard a 100k. Whatever it was, it would have been a lot. Could have paid for two decent centre-halves wages probably.
