Really? I can since they will see how important he's been to us. Only reason we would sell is if Luis wanted to go (which I suspect he would if it was Real, Barca or Bayern) AND someone offered the crazy money you speak of.
For £100m you can get 3 almost £35m players. Of those 3 £35m signings- you can bet at least one will be flop... at least one out of three big money signings for any team never works out like it should. So- sell Suarez we can get two really good players and an expensive flop. (two flops and one really good player also possible). It's crazy saying £100m is a gamble... but it is... we could come out ahead or behind. As good a coach as Rodgers is- he has only had one good transfer window so far: Coutinho and Sturridge. His two summers with us have been very mixed bag. I'm on the fence over selling Suarez for £100m and letting Rodgers spend... or keeping him. / last summer I would have let him go for half that because I saw him as a liability... how times change.
If scouted properly there is no reason any player cost that much money should flop... But life isn't that straight forward, so I guess, 2/3 hit rate is possible. Its all hypothetical, and in all honesty, I'd prefer to keep him than entertain offers for him!
Just because Spurs f*cked up spending the Bale money, doesn't mean that we will. You have to remember that Spurs had Baldini who in charge of spending that money, and he clearly wasn't in line with AVB hence the problem. Not only that, AVB didn't have time to really work on that squad. Spurs actually have a very good squad of players (they need to improve their defence) and all they need is a talented coach - Frank De Boer could be a perfect candidate for them. If we did get something stupid £100m for Suarez, then I wouldn't be worried. Suarez came out and said he wants to stay at LFC but I'm pretty confident that Real Madrid did make an offer, then he will push for the move. Don't get me wrong, I love Suarez and I rather he stayed. But if he does leave, I would be confident that LFC will spend that money wisely as we have a stable manager and backroom who are aligned in their objective, approach, thinking etc.
wasn't really the point i was trying to make, it was that spurs would be a better team with bale in it than without, they was going places with him in there, now they have just taken 2 steps backwards, if we sold Luis we would do exactly the same. both irreplaceable players to the respective teams.
Fair point - I rather we keep Suarez and improve the team naturally i.e. slowly adding 1-2 players each season, rather than spunking £100m. But if we did sell Suarez, I would have confidence that we would spend it wisely.
If we were to build slowly, my two ideal (reasonably realistic) signings would probably be Montoya and Rakitic.
Rakitic woudld be good signing. Would certainly add strength in the middle of midfield where we need it and offer a goal threat.

Luis Suarez scoring his 30th goal of the season.. by Alex Martin SENIOR WRITER Published 11 days ago Read by 50,917 People Comments 9 Flag article As featured on NewsNow: Football newsFootball News 24/7 Real Madrid have been told by the agent of Luis Suarez, Pere Guardiola, that his client wants to move to the Bernabeu in the summer, reports El Confidencial. Suarez signed a new long-term contract with Liverpool at the end of last year, reportedly increasing his wages to around £200,000-a-week and raising his release clause to £75 million. Despite insisting he is happy at Anfield and will have Champions League football to look forward to next season, Suarez is still keen to join the La Liga giants. His agent has contacted Real Madrid officials twice to notify them of Suarez's desire. Losing Suarez would be a huge blow to Brendan Rodgers and Liverpool, whose 30 goals have lifted the Reds to within touching distance of their first Premier League title. However, they may not have to worry about Suarez wanting to join Real Madrid because, according to the Spanish broadsheet, Real Madrid may not want Suarez. Although Real Madrid want to sign a star striker this summer, Florentino Perez is more keen on signing Sergio Aguero from Manchester City instead and will only start listening to Suarez's pleas if he fails to sign the Argentinean. So far Manchester City have refused to entertain interest in their striker, who has spent a large part of the last two seasons out injured. Even if Manchester City do agree to sell Aguero, Real Madrid will have to convince the striker, who has a hero status at Atletico Madrid, to join a club he once rivalled fiercely. Real Madrid believe the sale of Karim Benzema could generate enough funds to make a move for either Liverpool's Suarez or Aguero but won't make a firm decision on who until the season ends. Aguero remains a long-term target for the Real Madrid president but the form from Suarez, coupled with his desire to play at the Bernabeu, could entice Perez to meeting his release clause.
Notice how the headline says offered Suarez... Making it seem like we've offered him to them and are going to entertain bids.... Yet the article states it's his agent who has said he'd like to play there
Suarez's AGENT would like Suarez to play at Real Madrid because then he, as an agent, will get a bonus for the transfer- plus money from any extra wages. Suarez is probably fine staying put.
