Great news tbh, a season in the PL to really cut his teeth and get some experience. Unfortunately, that leaves us with Johnson more likely to get game time now...
But you're forgetting that prior to this season, we hadn't been in the CL for 5 years. We can't afford to have 4 or 5 people on £100k+ alogn with 4 players coming in for £30m. Who do you want us to be going for? Pogba? Vidal? we can't afford them and they wouldn't come to us. We aren't in that top bracket of clubs despite having all this history etc. We tried for Sanchez, he didn't like the location. Not much the club could do about that one.
This season is shaping to be a tester season. We will try to scrape fourth hoping United is still under construction. It will be next summer when we spend most of the Suarez money and go for it. The risk here is that we don't reach fourth, we will be severely limited in who we can impress with our cash next summer.
People on here do understand that there are still 44 days 8 hours and 19 minutes left to sign players right? In January we were talking about being allowed a extra hour to sign Konoplyanka, now people seem to be giving up on our transfers with a month and a half to go.
I don't want Pogba or Vidal, I didn't especially want Sanchez... I want better than average Pl players. Instead of paying an overinflated fee for a premier league player, take a gamble on a talented player from abroad. If you buy average pl players, guess where you end up?
And the rest...need much more than that to firstly improve the squad which was thin and lacking in talent last season without European games, never mind to replace the void left by Suarez leaving. Lallana, Markovic and Can are good, we need more and much better than Remy and Bony.
I see the pattern though. Don't have to wait till the end to realise we're probably not going to buy an established CB, FB, DM, CM or F to slot in the starting 11. Lallana is an AM in my eyes and Coutinho is better in the role imo. Can and Markovic are boxes of potential only at this point - they start from the bench. Remy is Sturridge's half, but none of Suarez. Lambert....
Have you not be following the Lovren and Moreno talk. I still expect us to sign Lovren and probably Moreno. I think they will really strengthen us. Think of Remy as Borini's replacement, not Suarez. Can and Markovic are very good and experienced for there age. Dont prejudge them because of there age. I like Coutinho a bit deeper in midfield and coming forward, creating from the middle. His passing really excels there. -------------Mignolet----------- -Flanagan-Lovren-Sakho-Moreno- -------------Gerrard------------- -----Henderson---Coutinho------- ---Lallana-------------Sterling--- ------------Sturridge------------ -------------Jones----------- -Johnson-Skrtel-Agger-Enrique -------------Lucas----------- --------Can-------Allen------- --Markovic------------Remy--- ------------Lambert----------- Plus Kelly, Ilori, Suso, Ibe, possible even Reina. I think this loos decent. Quality, experience and goals in both teams. Add the top calibre player that Rodgers has mentioned wanting and we can be very optimistic. I'd like that player to be a wide playmaker/creative forward type, or a false 9 (false 9's are hard to come by).
I like the idea of having Sturridge, sterling and remy as a front 3 against certain opponents. Obviously certain matches will require one or two of those to be dropped for couts, Lallana and Markovic but that front 3 would scare the life out of most defenders
But front 3 of Sturridge , sterling/Remy and Reus/markovic would be more scarey With lallana, courthino behind. Goals aplenty.
Borini is apparently not keen on a transfer. His agent says he wants to stay. Can safely say nobody would pay 14mil for the chap. Best for both parties if he moves on, seeing as we've signed Remy as well, He'd hardly get any minutes.
With an offer of £14m I hope he goes. I like the guy but we won't get that kind of money for him again as he'll only play a bit part this year. If he know what's best for his career, going to Sunderland would be it where he'll get 1st team football every week.
Lallana as a false 9 any one? Skillful, creative, very versatile, quick, strong, scores a decent amount of goals. With Sturridge and Sterling making the runs ahead of him in from wide.
