Why is it LB is such a high priority? I quite like Enrique as a player and would say RB should be just as important to target given we have Johnson as our current first choice. Unless Flannel is destined to take over at RB.

IMO it is system driven. The theory being the two full backs a) play actually wide midfield when we have possession, split cbs, regista, fullbacks in line with box to box CMs. they provide most of our width b) with 4-3-3 or 4-1-2-1-2 the full backs are more exposed so have to get back and defend well too c) the theory is we let 90% of crosses in and concede goals so a better FB should stop crosses getting in. I would say that RB is an issue but for me enrique is a year out and unproven in fitness as a result so we must assume the worst until we know more. flanagan is average. in terms of attacking and defense. he got caught under as many high corsses and johnson did.. which is one thing that annoys me most and back stick headed goals were an issue. he can't go forward really well form lb and cuts back too much. so unless he plays RB for me we've a big issue.

If you're ignoring Messi and C.Ronaldo, shouldn't you have list whoever came next instead? Of course, it can work the other way. Torres and Michu both had better records in England then Spain after moving.
Davies is a good full back, is he a £10m+ full back? Not for me. There's better value out there for that sort of money
