Its just all over twitter. Nothing solid.

But we should still bid for him, and Higuain.

    Ah right

Di Maria is a classy player but is another who's had a terrible WC.He would cost at least £40m IMO

If Man u got him it would take their spending to about £100m on 3 players, they may need to spend in other areas

If we get Markovic you would think we were sorted in that area. We'll see

    Higuain is an interesting proposition

I thought he had a decent enough world cup.

He's said he's happy at Napoli, and they have said they'd want £80m for him so seems very unlikely. Plus they only signed him for £40m last season.

Newcastle have signed Cabella. Really good signing, looks like a talent.

Bony is good, and I'm softening on him as a signing, but he doesn't offer much creatively. Personally I was hoping for someone to come in who was capable of producing something special to win us a match when we're not playing well, don't see that in Bony.

This. I know Bony is very solid and would get goals, but he should only be brought in as a compliment / back up to Sturridge and another. That other should be someone world class

We don't buy world class, we make them.

I guess you'd put your hopes on Lallana, Coutinho, sterling and markovic if he signs, being the creative players with Sturridge lambert and bony if he signs as the finishers.

Schurle would be a dream signing. I'm a huge fan.

But I'm predicting that Costa will flop at Chelsea, and that Schurrle will then step up and become a star.

I'm also softening to this. Bony could be our own Drogba.

Replying to both of the previous two quotes. Does that playing have to be a striker? A big part of me feels we'd be better off signing an attacking play maker and Bony than trying to sign a world class three dimensional striker like Suarez.

    Rodriguez, Firminio etc.

Or would Sterling, Coutinho and Markovic be enough?

Sounds good to me, how about we buy a few more players who are capable of becoming world class.

I'm 100% with you on this. A player like Firmino or Sanchez(who I know we lost out on) would also be able to play up top to provide that bit of magic if necessary.

if we play diamond we have plenty of creativity.

    ---------Gerrard
    Henderson-----Lallana
    --------Coutinho-----
    ----Bony----Sturridge

    or

    ------Sterling
    ---Bony---Sturridge

(Coutinho can also swap with Lallana)

Borini and Lambert would also feed well off of that. Markovic could also fit this role well.

If we play 433 I'm not so sure

In midfield we can go with:

    -----------Gerrard
    ---Henderson----Lallana

    or

    -----------Gerrard
    ---Henderson----Coutinho

I like both of these. But ahead I'm not so sure.

    We could go for this:

    Sturridge---Bony---Sterling

This lacks a bit of creativity when linking with midfield. Suarez did this so well in the middle.

    or we could go:

    Markovic---Sturridge---Sterling

Tons of pace and skill. But I'm still concerned about the link from midfield. They would feed on through balls well though.

    Finally:

    Coutinho---Sturridge---Sterling

Coutinho adds the creativity when linking with midfield and will give some extra skill. But it will limit his brilliant passing range, which will be a shame, and he doesnt score enough goals.

Sanchez would have been perfect on the right of a three. Rodriguez could be to. This could be the place to sign in.

    ---------------------

Edit: I just thought. I missed out an option that could be the answer. Could Lallana be that play maker?

    Lallana-----------------Sterling
    ----------Sturridge------------

    Creative, skillfull, versatile, scores goals.

I'm still not sold on Lallana as a central midfield player, but we'll see how that works out if he does line up there.

I think Coutinho shouldn't play on the wing in the 4-3-3 any more as he's so much better in the middle linking play and creating chances. His finishing really lets him down, or he could be that creative second forward in the diamond 4-4-2. Don't really like the thought of a diamond with Bony and Sturridge together. I think one of the forwards needs that creative spark like Suarez had, and the ability to come deeper to make things happen. Sturridge tries but isn't great at it and Bony isn't great linking play either.

    --------------Mignolet------------
    Flanagan--Lovren--Sakho--Moreno
    --------------Gerrard-------------
    ------Henderson---Coutinho------
    --Lallana----------------Sterling--
    -------------Sturridge------------

    --------------Jones------------
    Johnson--Skrtel--Agger--Enrique
    --------------Lucas------------
    ----------Can------Allen-------
    --Markovic-------------Borini---
    --------------Bony-------------

Plus Lambert, Kelly and possible Suso, Texeira, Wisdom, Ilori and Ibe if they do not go on loan.

I actually quite like this. Sure its not perfect but it is well balanced, skillful and creative. Good depth up front to.

I know Agger and Lucas may go.

Figure that's how it looks at the moment. Very creative, but a susceptible defensively. If Gerrard is the defensive mid he needs the diamond midfield to protect him. If we want to go with 3 in midfield I think we need a much more athletic ball winner in that defensive midfield role. Don't know if Can fits that description but we need someone who's defensively good but with legs.

I think our problems defensively have been more in the wide areas and dealing with crosses.

I also think the best way to defend is by dominating possession. Gerrard is ideal for this.
