Anyone else a bit gutted about Sanchez going to arsenal? Really wanted us to sign him. Obviously don't want players here just for cash either so realise its for the best
Yep. Wouldn't really have cared if he'd joined us for more money. If he did join Arsenal because he preferred the city is that a better reason? It's not like he has any love for either club anyway.
So not only do we sell our best player but in doing so we make a rival stronger. With Man ure strengthening, i think a top 4 finish will be beyond us next season. I dont believe the signings we have made so far are good enough to move us on in the PL and are certainly not CL quality.
Yep. As it's dawning on me that we will get no marquee signing this summer and will be losing our world class striker
Trying to look on the positive No marquee signing means that they don't tend to distrupt the group at the moment. It seems there is good team spirit and sometimes big players come with big egos that need feeding. Also think that last years signings may improve (Sakho, Mig) and the young players we have are all another year older and more experienced (Flanno, Sterling, Hendo, Allen). We've bolstered the squad with the return of a few younger players who offer more than the loanees we got in last year (Suso, Borini, Wisdom compared to Cissoko & Moses). On the whole, team is another year older and we've also added exciting talent like Can & Lallana who both had good seasons last year (Lallana team of the year and in his prime while Can looks a big strong player for only 20 years of age). Add in Markovic who looks like he could be exciting. Plenty to look forward to this year. Oh and CL football is back. Can't wait to see football on a Tues/Wed against some big European teams.
Since we can't replace Suarez anyway I like our current strategy which seems to be developing other areas of the pitch so that we can build our attack around Sturridge and Sterling People will calm down when they see and remember just how good these players are, and they can express themselves fully without the shadow of Suarez and with the added support from Lallana/Markovic Our attack will not be as good as with Suarez but it will still be better than anyone else but Man City The benefit of this strategy is unlike Chelsea and Arsenal we are not putting all our hopes on a single, expensive new striker who hasn't played in the PL before
I'm looking forward to the lad playing, boy is quality, got all the attributes to be a success in this league. Hopefully he has a mare twice a season against us though
Everyone stopping ****ting yourselves over one player. Why the **** he's chosen Arsenal over us (other than the obvious brown envelopes in a briefcase) on the evidence of last season is beyond me, but, each to their own.
No ones ****ting the bed mate (well, I'm not), just appreciating the fact that they've signed a good player, a player that will be playing in this league (which was/has been losing its World Class players). I'm more than happy with the progress we've made under Rodgers and long may that continue, we got to 2 points off the league title with really only one World Class player, sure, he'll be off soon, but I think Sterling will continue to improve and Ford, this John Malkovic chap is meant to be decent, the boy Lallana will do well too! Sort out our defence and I can see us being up there at the end of the season again!
We'll have to see how well he adapts to it. I do wonder if we'll actually sell gnasher now, especially since his ban has been upheld. Guess we just have to hope that last season wasn't a one off.
We have this discussion about a "marquee" signing every window. I don't wish to be rude but I really don't give a flying **** whether or not we sign a big name, as long as we have a balanced, effective team with some decent options in the squad. How many of the previous, realistic, "missed targets" of ours have gone on to set the PL alight at the clubs they spurned us for?
I think we must stick with our strategy of signing young up and coming players, it worked well last season and we've just got to stick with it until we have a strong squad throughout. Suarez is a great player and there's no doubt we will miss him but if we spend 40m on a proven striker and he doesn't work then we wasted an opportunity to build on the value we are creating. In my mind we should be looking at promising young players who will be world beaters in couple of seasons just like suarez was when we signed him. Ok we might suffer a drop in form, but lets face it without Suarez thats probably going to happen anyway. I trust Rodgers ability to get the best out of these young players and make them the superstars of the future and create a bright long term future for LFC.
Couldn't agree more.. FSG and Rodgers himself said we were/are 2 years ahead of schedule. Continue to work on the youngsters and like you say, work on a deeper/balanced squad and I don't care how many quality players the others teams sign, I'll back us to do well!
Who did we sign last year? Seriously, I see last year signings, maybe apart from Mignolet, as unsuccessful. But I do agree with you in principal. We need to sign players who could turn into world class players. We obvioulsy have a coach who is capable of doing that and we should make sure that we use it. I'm happy with our 3 signings to date. This Markovic fella and the Belgian lad look great prospects if we do sign them. If only one of them is a great success. I'd be satisfied. Am totally unsure on Bony, if the rumours are true....but trust the gaffer to know what he wants.
I think after the WC Sakho had, his confidence will be really high and he'll be a key player for us next season - Lovren or not, he'll be our best CB imo. The Bony deal seems odd to me, He's a big strong lad, but doesn't suit our style - similar to Andy Carroll not fitting in. Plus we have a big lad in Lambert who can play that role if needed, but also suits our style as he's good with his feet, vision etc. If we buy Bony, I'll be seriously questioning wtf is going on.
I would not go quite so far but.... 1. Mingolet. I'd put him down as ok you've had a sighter you'd better be a lot better this next year, at elast command the box and come out more and try to sweep to encourage a higher line. 2. Sahko. bring world cup form home and sat fit.. certiinly not unsuccessful 3. Ilori. unfair to call unsuccessful but this year i want to see whats what here. can we make our moeny back? probably easy enough 4. Alberto. for me not up to the englsh prem. doubt we'll make our moeny back unless he surprises in spain. 5. Aspas.. f'n joke 6. moses - bad loan but filled a gap. this year we've 1. signed an oldie first... same like last year, first up is a squad filler. i've no opinion on its success 2. Lallana for me is way over priced 3. Can looks like a very good potential aquisition and i cannot see us not getting our moeny back so good move 4. markovic? i'm hoping it comes off and danilo is right 5. origi. 6mil? prob can't lose on it if we develoes per ilori
I think we really need Can to hit the ground running, we need that strength in midfield, so all our attacking players can do their ting. I have a feeling Can will end up being an absolute bargain - the kids 20 and he's huge, with all the right attributes for the PL. Could become the white version of Yaya Toure
