  2. Couldn't agree more with that bit. All I'm saying is I don't think it would be wise to sell both Skrtel and Agger in the summer with only really Sakho established.

No way could we sell both. You need stability. Change to much in one go and we will end up like Spurs.

  4. My point entirely.

With it looking like Johnson will be off, its in liking to last summer when the talk was Reina, Skrtel and Agger.

spurs ae 6 points off. they got close form similar last year and arsenal celebrated last year.

Spurs should really be ripped asunder if they fail again... they don't seem to need to balance the books and on a "small" stadium and wages spiralling up surely a point has to come soon?

If we can take 4th it might badly affect them and make it at least a 5 horse race next year

loris and vertongen are damn fine player.s

  6. I think Spurs have done well after losing their team to Real in the summer :bandit:

  8. If Johnson leaves, we have Flanno. If (as expected) Aly leaves, we have Enrique. If one of Skrtel or Agger leave, we have Sakho. However, can we count Toure too? I don't think we can.

I'd expect a recruitment for each leaving player still though.

    I'll take none of those.....

    -

Would any one be happy with this?

    Flanagan-Skrtel-Sakho-NewBloke

    Wisdom-Illori-Toure-Enrique

Obviously it depends on who the new bloke at LB is?

  10. Should Agger and Johnson leave, IMO our strongest line-up would be:

    Flanno - Skrtel - Sakho - Enrique

Any recruitment should be looking to better them. Also think it's fair to say that that backline is not good enough.

the answer to this question is IT DEPENDS

if that was what we had i would say we were very foolish losing cover and depending on ilori after ONE spanish league match where is played long balls.

If LFC bought one full back and let agger go and depended o nthe two rbs you say I would have to ask

Where else was the money spent.

If we buy two good midfielders and a winger and a striker then ok yeah we can get by carrying a full back. sides like utd have done it for years

BUT i'd want to know we got serious reinforcements up front and in midfield.

It will be interesting to see how Wisdom has progressed when he is back from loan. From what I hear he is being played at CB while on loan.

So potentially a CB pairing for years of Wisdom and Sakho.

That's a good point mate - the problem is, Skrtel and Agger are high earners at the club. We cannot afford to have one sitting on the bench let alone two which is why I wouldn't be surprised if they both left.

He's played at RB and has been one of Derby's best players this season.

Looking forward to him coming back, along with Suso and Borini.

Would sooner see Agger go than Skrtel. But ideally would love to see a right sided CB come in. Preferably someone who is already experienced. I think we need an organiser/leader back there. Sahko might become that, but he's still young and perhaps doesn't have the confidence to boss the defence of a team he just joined.

Would also ideally bring in a new LB and maybe RB as well, Flanno's done well when needed but if Johnson is leaving would like to see another solid RB brought in. Enrique was struggling even before he got injured so would like a first choice LB to come in, maybe try and grab up Ricardo Rodriguez (I wish!) while everyone is fighting over Luke Shaw.

Ricardo Rodriguez is the best young left back in the world IMO - we need to do our best to get him!

Montoya and Oliver Sorg are two versatile full backs who can play on both flanks and again, we should do all we can to get them.

Dede or Hoewdes for RCB would be perfect.

How about we look at it this way.

    Left side CB's: Sakho, Agger.

Right side CB's: Skrtel, Toure, Ilori, Coates.

Ball playing CB's: Sakho, Agger, Ilori.

CB's who look cautious on the ball to often: Skrtel, Toure, Coates.

We have seen many time that which side a CB plays on DOES make a different. Not just because of stronger foot but also familiarity.

Rodgers wants every player to be good on the ball. As our current CB's Sakho, Agger and Ilori fit this. But Ilori is still very young.

If we sign a new first 11 CB to partner Sakho I think Agger has the bigger part to play in the squad because I feel he has more to offer all round.

But Skrtel's form has been better out of the two. Iyts a tricky one.

What CB would people want if we did bring some one in?

Dede or Hoewdes as the RCB. They are leaders, and ones who are ready for a battle.

Rodgers has some big decisions to make this summer regarding our defense.

    Johnson will be going.
    Coates will be going.

That will leave us with Enricky, Agger, Sakho, Skrtel, Toure, Flanagan, Ilori, Wisdom and Kelly.

    CBs.
Sakho is his first pick (hopefully) leaving him with Agger, Skrtel or Toure to partner him - all are on highish wages and all getting older. They're not for the future. He can't keep 3 of them on the books if only one will be a starter, so he needs to decide which to flog.

He's then got to decide what to do with Ilori, Kelly (clearly not a RB) and Wisdom (best position is CB imo). Ilori was always planned to come here, then go out on loan for 6months, then come back in the summer to fight for the team. Is he ready to do so? Is Andre after his loan spell where he's looked promising and did in his previous season here? Kelly's not looked the same since his injury, will he ever? Time's not on his side. Those are our long term prospects for the RCB spot next to Sakho. If he doesn't fancy any of them there, he needs to look at another long term option and sell one or two.

    Fullbacks.
Enricky and Flanno. Possibly Wisdom for another year or two if he stays, but not his best position. Maybe a Carra where he moves inside later on in his career. Desperately need more options here, can't rely on natural CBs filling in. How many does he buy? I'd argue at least one LB and one RB.

    TL;DR
Need two fullbacks and maybe one CB, depending on what Rodgers thinks about Wisdom, Kelly and Ilori and if they're ready/capable/promising enough to partner Sakho.
