Eli King back on grass after 8 months out.
Possibly one less signing we need in the summer.
Still need to sign Wintle up though.

Don't forget Ng and Bagan.

Robinson and Chambers to leave. Possibly Turner if new keeper can show he is fit. At the risk of upsetting some on here I don't think Isaak is up to Championship standard.

Anyone else to go?

Indeed.

Robinson is an enigma. Struggles for game time but has the best goals per minute in the squad. Joint second highest with 9. Equal to Kellyman, one ahead of Ruben. He's probably on a hefty salary so if he's not going to get regular game time, he needs to be moved on. I quite like him in the squad though. He seems supportive and encouraging even when hes not playing. A good club man. To let him go, we need somebody as good coming in. Possibly a Salech-like player if that's how BBM wants to go.

Same with Chambers. No doubt another big earner. I suppose it depends on if we keep hold of Lawlor. He'd be silly to leave, though Im sure some will come sniffing.

Im intreagued as to how BBM will approach things. He's not a 'need another three players', type of guy. Will he bring another youngster or two into the first team from the accademy? A bit of experience from elsewhere? Or will he have his eye on a bit of raw tallent from elsewhere that needs a bit of polishing?

I dont think there will be too many changes. Evolution not revolution.
Whoever he brings in will fit our style. No square pegs in round holes.
There have been too many signings for signings sake and players that didnt fit.
I dont see that happening in the summer.

You make some valid points but at the end of the day IMO based on what I’ve seen of the Championship this season our current squad will do well to avoid a relegation scrap; better quality out wide at CB and up front are needed but the overriding questions are whether Tan will stump up enough cash for BBM and will the scouting team be able to source that extra bit of quality needed at the next level.

I heard a rumour last night that Sunderland are after Bagan.
If true, there is every chance he'll leave us i would imagine.

They can obviously offer more cash and the prospect of a few Premier League appearances... He'd have to wait another season before we can give him that :emoticon-0105-wink:

Just reading that its personal terms thats the stumbling block with Trott.
Option to buy agreed at £1.5m, but Trott has already turned down an initial contract offer.

Pity but it's his choice. Hope some middle ground can be found.

Same for Wintle and Bagan.

With Ng I wonder if he's looking for some arrangement to enable him to represent Singapore? Possibly to play in a country of a reasonable standard closer to Singapore?

Not surprising really. City have Tyrer and Turner on the books if Trott doesn’t stay. It’ll be interesting to see who he picks between the sticks at Mansfield.
Watched the full 90 on the weekend, usually just watch extended highlights. Tyrer looked ok. A couple smart saves, a couple wayward long passes, but with game time that will come.
Losing 2 full backs would be painful though. Id like to keep the 3 outfield players whose contracts are up. 2 of the 3 as a minimum.

Im sure BBM will be his usual (outwardly) relaxed self and deal with what he has.
Quality over quantity seems to be his mantra. That and being able to develop players of whatever age. Given how all 3 have waxed lyrical about style of football and enjoying BBM's coaching, they'd be foolish to think the grass is greener....
Money talks though and its a short career.

Listening / reading a couple bits about Wrexham's season. Parkinson bemoaning lack of depth during a period of injuries, especially in midfield. Given they had quite a large squad (I know there's a cap) I got to thinking, how many is enough? Wrexham have bought in experience so wouldnt have the advantage we have of U21s that dont count towards the 25 player limit. Neither has their accademy kept pace with their 1st team, nor would you expect it to have, given the required lead time.

BBM has always advocated a small squad, but there are risks involved. Looking at our squad, we only had 20 players over 21 years old.
I'll have to look up how many games / minutes each player had. It would be quite a high average though.

Thinking back to previous managers who wanted bigger squads, that left experienced players on decent salaries with no game time. Robinson edges towards that category, but his 10 goals were vitally important.

There's a balance to be had. One or two of our younger players who didnt count towards the 25 this year probably will next, though Lawlor and Kpakio still wont count.

Do we need a bigger squad next season? Will recruitment be one out, one in? Or will the squad grow by a couple?

It'll be interesting to see how a few of the real young guns get handled this season. Will they play for the 18s / 21s and be kept in and around 1st team training. Is 16/17 too young to go out on loan? I feel it is. Im hoping a couple of the 21s will get loan spells to get the sausage machine in full production. Bagan, Davies and Colwill Jnr really benefitted from their loan spells. It'll take a season or two for things to get to full flow. Just hope we have the board / management vision and structure in place for the required time.

Quite a bit of juggling to do this summer, not just for 1st team recruitment, and a bigger challenge ahead.
Not expecting a huge amount of change, but the 3 or 4 who do arrive will give us an indication of what to expect, as will any that leave. The 'out of contract 4' plays into that.

I know BBM, his backroom team and Gavin Chesterfield will be ready to go. I hope Dalman and Choo can keep up.
