Absolutely huge that we try our utmost to outsource the next Xhaka in terms of a new leader.

Does anyone have any ideas as to who we could look at to bring in who has similar leadership skills with great discipline and influence? Its probably a 50 million pound player...

We could try looking for the young, inexperienced version of Xhaka and build them up. GX did have the hothead side that became more controlled in his late 20s so we’d need to excuse such driven players from overstepping sometimes.

I think and hope that the crowds have become a lot more understanding and supportive of really young and talented players. They will have ups and downs.

Sunderland have been handed a major boost after Dan Ballard agreed an extension to his current contract.

The Echo understands that Ballard put pen to paper on fresh terms ahead of the 1-1 draw with Bournemouth at the Vitality Stadium on Saturday, and that confirmation of the new deal is now imminent. Sunderland have been keen to reward Ballard for his rapid progress on Wearside, emerging as one of the key players in Régis Le Bris's squad since promotion to the Premier League...

Edit: As with the vast majority of the squad from last season, Ballard's contract improved as a result of promotion but with clubs taking notice of the defender's stellar form, Sunderland moved to reward his performances. His previous deal had been due to expire in the summer of 2028, and it's thought that he has agreed an extension of a further year.

Would it be a good idea to get Xhaka himself involved in his replacement.
He must know loads of players and would probably have a good idea who to go for.

Even if it’s not his replacement I would hope we’re using him to try and get some next level players in.

Who knows, our management in the 2030’s might be a Xhaka/O’Nien partnership.

Good to see it seems to be more wage increase to reward his form.

Always remember what was said about Hutchinson and being denied the increase he was promised. And Isak with them lot.

Rewarding form when players have time left on contract has plenty of benefits for moral and players wanting to earn their wage increase etc...

And it adds a couple of years!

With Burnley and Wolves practically down, would you take anyone from their respective squads that you quite admire?

Relegated teams dont sell their players at a cut price fee as much now I feel, so I would find it hard.

Think I’d be more interested in trying to get Fatawu from Leicester if/when they get relegated to L1.

They’re in a serious financial hole as well, so you’d think the fee could be quite reasonable.

I like Ugochukwu at Burnley, only 21, loads of potential. Esteve too but he’ll have loads of interest.

If West Ham go down they are fcked like a woman of the night is every Friday, even if they stay up, they have sell.

Do think one more win should do us.

Thought I'd have a look at out-of-contract players who could be available on free transfer this summer:

Oscar Mingueza, 26, Celta Viga, right back.

Olkesander Zinchenko, 29, Ajax, left back.

Danilho Doekhi, 27, Union Berlin, centre back.

Diogo Leite, 27, Union Berlin, centre back.

Mika Marmol, 24, Las Palmas, centre back.

Xaver Schlager, 28, RB Leipzig, midfielder.

Eric Martel, 24, FC Koln, defensive midfielder.

Jonas Wind, 27, Wolfsburg, forward.

For what it's worth I doubt we'd be looking for many players in this category who are probably looking for a payday.
