Ultimately I don't think the club care if some fans think £50m isn't a good deal because they saw £100m in the papers. If they think this will help us get a bigger fee, even if only slightly bigger, the club will be happy with that.
The funniest thing about Lavia if I remember was we wanted £50m and Liverpool kept offering £40 then £45 then £49m and we said no we want £50m. lol then Chelsea offered £55m and when Liverpool said they will match it we said no. Or something like that.
Yeah nobody's paying that amount for him. I wonder if this might partly be a message to him/his agent. "You're under contract and we won't be forced into selling on the cheap"
Yeah I don’t think the club will care that much, but still not great from a PR perspective. I don’t really see why they couldn’t have just told clubs this is the price rather than going down the public route. Maybe they have and this is one of them leaking to the press our asking price so everyone can laugh at Saints being ridiculous with their price, I haven’t read the full article to see if it names a source.
Glad to see it. Anyone valuing Dibling at £30m or less really needs to have a re-think. He's the brightest academy product since Bale/Walcott/Ox, and he is doing it in the Prem, rather than the lower leagues. He'd be excellent in a top half team with quality around him, and his ceiling is so high. Future England player, if he avoids injuries. At 30m we'd be looking back in a few years and wondering why we let him go so cheaply. No point selling him if the offer is less than 50m. Even next summer with a year left on his contract, we'll get more than £30m for him. I remember Evan Ferguson was given a 100m price tag after scoring a few times for Brighton. It's not that audacious for the club to be putting such a high fee out there. Plus it will stop all the Mickey Mouse offers trying to unsettle him. All the fans that complain, 'but he doesn't do it every week'. He's a teenager in his first season, with sh*te players around him. What do you expect? The kid is absolute quality. Has made seasoned defenders look foolish at certain times this season.
I know he has had a very promising youth career, both at Saints and with England, but he has also only had about 8 or 9 good games in the top flight. If he was signed from abroad and had played the same then no one would be talking about £100m or anything close. In fact, Fernandes has had a better season than Dibling and is only 1 year older. I haven't even seen him linked to another club let alone for £100m.
Yeah English players are more expensive. That's a fact that works in our favour. Leeds got 40m for Archie Gray, who hadn't played ANY games in the top flight at that point. And Leeds had to sell because of missing out on promotion. We don't have to sell; the club have already stated that. And saying Tyler has only played 8 or 9 decent games in my opinion is putting such a negative spin on things. He has been excellent at times, and that is what other clubs are looking at. The fact that he hasn't been consistent, is pretty obviously because of how sh*t the rest of the team, and especially, the managers have been. That he has even had "8 or 9" good games should probably be seen as impressive, considering. You really want him to carry this team on his own, in every game, at such a young age? It isn't realistic.
Fernandes has been able to play consistently well despite the rest of the team being crap - so I don't think you can use it as an excuse for Dibling. He has had a few very good games and because he is a) English and b) coming from an academy with excellent history he is being over rated. That's just my opinion. Although I would add the caveat that his inconsistency and recent struggles may be more related to a lack of motivation (either because his head has been turned or because we are relegated) than his ability. We won't find that out for a while though.
There are of course a few ways of looking at this. 1. He has been excellent in the worst Premier League side in history 2. He has shown promise 3. He is the next Gareth Bale I am going to go with number 3. Of course, 1 isn't a negative. Cream rises to the top. 2 is also a positive, but won't get more than £30m for him if viewed this way
Maybe if there were daily rumours about Fernandes, then the club would put a (unrealistic) valuation on him too. But there aren't. Why aren't there daily rumours about him? Who knows? Perhaps the position/role he plays is not as highly sought after. Regardless if a dozen or so of the biggest clubs in England (and Europe) are scouting/preparing bids for a player (Dibling), then they obviously see something in him.
A year is massive at that age in terms of development, Fernandes has played nearly 100 first team games and Dibling has played only 25. Everybody can see Tyler's potential, he will be a top, top player in a couple of years.
Speaking of Fernandes. Have said a few times we could/should be playing him as a DM. Apparently the Juventus scouts agree, and even think he is comparable to Paolo Sousa. https://sportwitness.co.uk/mateus-f...lockbuster-exit-from-southampton-this-summer/
Yeah, there is interest for a reason. Don't get me wrong, I think he is a very talented kid that may well go on to have a great career. I just think the money being talked about is more than I would think he is worth based purely from what i've seen on the pitch.
Yeah, 100m is wild. But so, imo, is 30m. If it ends up somewhere roughly in the middle, I think that's fair.
I would cash in in Dibling. A few seasons back, the same people were making similar claims for JWP. If we get £30 million , i would be staggered. I cannot see Fernandes staying either. Not sure how many will remin from this current squad. Even Cameron Archer is angling to leave. If we have 5 to 10 of the current squad turning out next season i will be surprised. I expect a massice clear out and a new manager.
So would I - we want £100 million. Now I'm not saying we'll get that but clearly anyone bidding 30 will be told to **** off.
