That's what Chelsea said buying Torres. That's what Liverpool said buying his replacement Andy Carroll.
Squad capitulated in the second half of the season - basically a takeover that fell through after the prospective owner had been given access to the first team squad and allowed to bring some of his own players in. Fractured the dressing room. Not an easy situation for TSF to be in, but it's also fair to say he didn't exactly pull up any trees either. He got enough opportunities just didn't take them.
It was going to be tough for them without Greg Olley though, didn't they lose him to a broken leg like five games in?
Not interested in a petty back and forth argument, just pointing out there's no guarantees. Not bothered to study and memorise the stats for every player at every club since time began, the two mentioned were quite famous and I had posted about them a number of times before when the subject of proven goal scorers crops up which is why they stick in my mind.
Yeah. Worth having a look at his interview from last Monday over on YouTube Gateshead FC channel. Pretty remarkable. Tbh though they were flying without him at Xmas and it's not his first lengthy spell out in recent years.
Didn't he start out with 2 goals and an assist early? Looking at his games it looks like he's been lucky to get 10 minutes in the last 10 or so games
I'd have thought Leeds will struggle to get someone to pay the fee they want to sign him on a permanent given that they obviously don't want/need him so are in a poor bargaining position. I wouldn't be surprised if he goes somewhere on loan again. Just like our unwanted but contracted players always end up out on loan deals.
Looked good in his first few games, but gradually dropped off. But to be fair, they all did to an extent. Can't say he was unlucky or hard done by to only be getting cameos by the end of it though, others justified their starts by contributing more . Albeit marginally.
Nor am I, you just picked out two players and used them more than once so I thought it worth making a more balanced point. More often than not prolific strikers continue to score goals because, well, they're good strikers. Absolutely fine that they're the two that stick in your mind, but you can't just cite them and act like they close the case definitively disproving that proven strikers exist.
Not on a permanent he won't be. And not on loan either without L**ds paying a massive chunk of his wages.
Chelsea made an expensive mistake/gamble. Liverpool knew Torres wasn't the same player after injuries that's why they were happy to sell, Chelsea hoped he would be and risked it
