Thanks ST for what you have posted. Would you say IF we go down, then we are akin to Reading? The rumour of a worrying announcement within days if we go down will be presumably that we go into administration and start next season -10 points. At least Selles has been there before! What's Adam Pearson doing these days?
Nah it's all bollocks according to those who's lack of insight leads them to pin everything all the time on the head coach. Like they've never abandoned a save on football manager.
For those that like stats - in the final 13 games last season, Rosie managed to get 16 points out of 39 - which is why we didn't make the play offs - we still have one game to go this season but out of the previous 12 games, Ruben has managed 15 points - and according to some, Rosie is a god and Ruben is hopeless - yet their record at the end of the season is almost identical - both crap although given the quality this season, it can well be argued that Ruben's performance is significantly better
I don't think it's as complex as that. I doubt if Acun paid anything like the £30m reported for the club in the first place for a start. He saw a club at the time that was ripe for a takeover, a club with no debt, a club that had recently been in the PL, one that was solvent and one with plenty of headroom to borrow on the transfer market. He also had a very sellable player in KLP who was on the verge of joining a PL club bringing an immediate return on the price paid for the club, I'd even say that selling KLP brought the asking price for the club down considerably. It was a good deal and a fabulous chance for the Turk to get a foothold in English football with a good chance of reaching the PL quickly. All on borrowed money. Not much different to the deal that Russell Bartlett set up for himself. Live the life of Riley on the back of the club credit card, then leave someone else to pick up the tab if it all goes tits up. It's not as though we haven't seen this before at Hull City.
We're 60+million in debt to the media company, where the media company has almost certainly been using commercial creditors to fund us at around 5% interest . At last accounts the club was losing 400k per week. That's simply not sustainable in league 1.
You’re right. At least Venezuela’s oil money was theirs to begin with. Everything from the purchase to transfers and day-to-day funding of the club has been with borrowed money. At some point, they’ll want it back which means Acun will want it back with interest and the club’s losing £500,000 a week and for every £100 the club makes, we’re spending £130 on wages.
If those stats are correct then it confirms to me what I thought, that Selles is doing a decent job with the players he has available. It's not been amazing, he's made mistakes, but he's had 5 key players out for the season and no decent striker at this level. Hopefully we can stay up and see what Selles can do with a fully fit team and a few key additions.
Expect 14 pages of posts from Sydney dissecting and analysing your post and what the figures really show, something only his razor sharp intellect can discern correctly.
For one we would not need a lot, players coming back from injury, sell players out on loan and fringe players , cut squad to 20-24 players. Bring in Zambrano a Striker and a couple of loans away you go have a crack at it.
What I find a bit strange if what is being speculated, is why safe standing has been sanctioned, I assume the club will be paying and not the council?
Exactly my feelings. Are we going to be good enough for a promotion push? Definitely not. I don't think that should even be the aim next season. I think as 1MoreAgain said, sell a few players and concentrate on a decent striker and a couple of fullbacks and I think we've got enough for a mid table finish. If our finances are as bad as some say, we could probably not sign anyone on a permanent but maybe just bring in a few decent loans and I still think we have enough to stay up if we can avoid big injuries.
And to replace the players who've been told they can leave? And sign this striker that we haven't been able to afford up to now despite wasting more than the price of one on numerous lame donkeys? And and the left back which we haven't managed yet under Acun either? Stay up or go down I'm expecting anyone with any value to be sold off in a fire sale and yet another complete chaotic rebuild in summer. What is there to suggest otherwise?
I'd say Reading were in a better position due to the amount of League One standard academy kids/graduates they had coming through at the time. Financially the situation would not be as bad (Reading's wage bill was 234% of their turnover ) For next season, you could make a case for Smith, Cartwright, Rocco Coyle and Stan Ashbee and assuming he stays, Matty Jacob would probably be fine in League One. But it's not going to fill you with confidence is it? TLT would be fine in goal, Ashbee and Smith at centre half, Jacob and Coyle at full back, you can probably piece together a few players until you get to the top end, which is now classic us.
Thing is Bartlett was reckless, but he did have the money on paper. Property crash f*cked him. He didn't f*ck himself like the mad Turk.
