It would also be risky business for them, probably a much higher chance they would eventually receive either no or a just nominal sell on fee than a big pay day, and his destiny is also completely out of their control. It’s definitely a better deal for us than it is for Villa for a player that many people had thought would cost double the rumoured initial fee.

it is early in the window, agents will be asking for silly money for wages. The closer to the window shutting and the demands will reduce.

What I wouldn't want to be doing as. club and learning from lessons of the past, is committing money to this deal and then later in the window a really great position filling option comes up and it takes us into a bad position FFP or at that stage we just cant afford it..

Much of it already posted but just o clarify here is the Athletic article verbatim.

Louie Barry’s proposed move to Hull City from Aston Villa is now on the brink of collapse after concerns were raised over the affordability of the deal.

The Athletic reported on Monday evening that a move had been agreed for Barry to join Hull for £3.5million, with Villa inserting a substantial sell-on clause in the fee, that sources with knowledge of the arrangement indicate is worth 50 per cent.

However, the deal is now highly unlikely to happen, with Hull currently struggling to meet the financial package agreed, including Barry’s salary. The 22-year-old spent the second half of last season at the Championship club, though his spell was curtailed by injury four games into his loan

“I like Louie Barry; he likes us,” owner Acun Ilicali told Hull Live earlier this week. “We had a good conversation with him three days ago. I’m personally involved in this transfer because of my relationship with Monchi (head of football operations at Villa) and Mr Sawiris (Villa’s owner).”

Barry joined Hull in January after signing a new contract at Villa, which aimed to protect his market value following a highly successful start to the campaign, where he scored 15 goals in 23 League One appearances at Stockport County.

The forward came through West Bromwich Albion’s academy and has had spells at Barcelona, Ipswich Town, Swindon Town, MK Dons and Salford City. Barry has interest elsewhere in the EFL, with other suitors now expected to return now the proposed move to Hull hasn’t progressed.

Hull narrowly avoided relegation to League One on the final day of the 2024-25 season, finishing 21st and surviving on goal difference. They will also have a new head coach, with Croatian Sergej Jakirovic replacing Ruben Selles.

We didn't. It was reported in the athletic and Acun said thanks for the information. This is all press talk. All the club have done is confirmed talks.

£30,000 a week is a pisstake. Essentially an £11m commitment for him alongside the 50% sell on. Not surprised we’re considering pulling out.

Suspect we need someone to go out before we can sign him. They were probably expecting a Mehlem type to have gone by now.

The question has to be, who on the continent that can do a proper job that is proven at a level can we get for 30k a week... he's scored for Rochdale for goodness sake...

There can only be 6 clubs in this division that would want him ... Southampton, Leicester (financial issues) and Ipswich... Sheffield Utd, Birmingham and Wrexham. Seems like Wrexham are **** or busting.
