Do you know who pushed for the signing of Joseph? If it was Sellés, then Acun sacking him is justified by that alone.
I bet it was Steve Bruce doing the pushing. "Honest lads, he's like a young Eric Cantona, 5 million and he is yours".
£4 million for Joseph It’s that ridiculous it could actually be true. £2.5 million was bad enough and one zero too many.
The Joseph bashing is way over the top. We always do this with strikers who don't score many, even though we really should be used to it with our record. He hasn't been terrible, he's not a total buffoon, he has been a regular starter for most of his time here ahead of other attackers like Burstow, Amrabat and Lincoln. If he was irredeemable cack he wouldn't have been playing.
If the wingers are fit, he shouldn't be short of chances. I can only remember him missing one chance, it's either the lack of service or bad positioning, I hope it's the piss poor service.
If it was £2.5m down, and the rest based on goals scored, we'll end up paying £2.5m! That said, hope the lad gets a couple of early goals once the season begins.
He looked slow with the ball Like he needed an extra touch that he barely got and you dont get at this level
Yep he's been completely written off. He was playing off the left in a team playing for 0-0 every week. Give him a chance under the new manager and he could develop very quickly. At least he's quick and strong, just needs to actually be given chances and then we can actually form a view on him.
He’s not irredeemable cack. He’s still closer to Messi than I am to him. That being said, he’s not a £1.5 million striker, let alone £2.5 million or £4 million (allegedly), so long as I’ve got a hole in my arse. He’s a £750K signing at most. I’m not wholly convinced he was in the top 10 best strikers in League One last season. Burstow’s the same and I said as much when we signed him. He was woeful at Sunderland. We have two youngish strikers signed for millions of pounds whose technical ability is so far below the standard for this division. Other than pressing and attitude, I can’t think of any of Joseph’s other strengths as a striker. He’s not particularly physical, not particularly quick, his hold-up and link-up play leaves a lot to be desired, his finishing is poor etc. Estupiñán wasn’t great at a lot of things but he was a good finisher who got into great positions i.e. a poacher. Bedia wasn’t quick and his first touch was pony but he was strong and could hold the ball up well. Ohio was very raw but he was very quick, strong and a decent finisher. Joseph is worse than those three. In fact, he might be the worst striker we’ve signed under Acun and that includes Forss. Hopefully he proves me wrong.
I'm not saying Joseph has been brilliant, but I think the goal tally is disproportionately used against him, as it always is with non-scoring strikers. Really it's a very fine margin. He played in a team that barely ever created a chance and scored very few goals. In the time he was here Pedro only scored one. At Burnley their keeper dropped a ball at Joseph's feet and the ref gave a nonsense foul before he could tap it in. Had he not done that, Joseph would've scored as many as any striker for us in the time he was here. So that's how fine the margins are when you focus on a goal record in a team that never creates chances for its striker.
I didnt mention goals Joseph just looks like he lacks the technical ability to be a good player at this level And he is being judged more due to his high transfer cost New seasons a fresh start For everyone
I’m not just focusing on his goal record though. I’m talking about his attributes as a whole. His only strengths seem to be what he does off the ball. He’s not particularly good at anything when we’re in possession whether it’s making runs in behind, holding the ball up, dropping deep to create space and linking up with his teammates, winning the ball in the air, controlling the ball or dribbling. He runs and presses when we don’t have possession and that’s it. His transfer fee isn’t his fault but for £2.5 million, that’s piss-poor and I expect a lot better value for money at this level. £4 million is just unthinkable to be spending on a striker who doesn’t offer anything in possession. Jarvis was sold for peanuts and he’s much more technically gifted than Joseph but he was lazy as **** off the ball.
