On that subject, the lineups for the pre-season friendlies will be a litmus test. Last year we had Giles playing left wing for half of the friendlies because we just had no wingers. The whole attacking side of the team for the friendlies was completely patched together with what we had, and very obviously not the team we'd be taking through the season. That obviously can't be good preparation, it'll be interesting to see where we are on that front this time round.
Yeah. For parts of last pre-season, we had a front three of Ömür, Longman and Giles. Having a winger as a sole striker and a left-back at left-wing obviously wasn’t what Walter wanted to play but had to. We had to recall Estupiñán as well just to have a recognised striker. Pre-season results don’t matter but having a settled squad where the coach can decide to give players minutes is positive. Having to cobble up a starting XI out of necessity rather than choice isn’t a positive.
Hull City head coach Tim Walter has revealed why he's so keen to bring Oscar Estupinan back to the club after his loan spell in Brazil was ended earlier this week. Estupinan, who bagged 13 goals in his first Championship campaign following his free transfer move from Portugal, played just six times in the league last term. He featured once in the Carabao Cup with his solitary goal coming in the infamous first round defeat to Doncaster Rovers. Former City boss Liam Rosenior sanctioned his loan move to FC Metz in France in the first half of the campaign before he headed to Bahia. But Walter says the Colombian is exactly the striker he likes and believes Estupinan will fit into his style of play. "I have had a good talk with him, I had a Zoom call with him, so I like him, I like his style that he played before in Hull. "I saw a lot of clips from him how he scored the goals. He's waiting in front (of goal) and that's what we need to maybe to pin some players in the last line, to bind them and then make space for the upcoming players, like our number eight or for the wingers. "And at the end, he's there to score and that's what he prefers. He said to me, 'Oh, that's my style, that's my style.' I showed him a lot of clips from my former clubs (Robert Glatzel) and he liked it and he said it's my style and I said, I know it's your style, that's the reason why you have to come back." It was originally hoped Estupinan would join the squad at their training camp in Riva, but Walter says given the fact the striker has played continuously for the past year, he's given him two weeks off and will join up with the squad later in pre-season.
Players in and out since January 2022.... It's like reading down the names on a cenotaph at a major battle site. Honestly, I wouldn't bother if I were the owner... . https://www.hulldailymail.co.uk/sport/football/transfer-news/every-player-signed-moved-hull-10242303
We've offered a contract to Mahir Emreli apparently. Free agent after leaving FC Nurnberg. Worked with Jakirovic before and can play up top or on the right.
We talk about the failure in signing strikers, but we did sign him and Tetteh that one summer who were both good. Problem is the manager was crap and the squad as a whole was all over the place. Then Rosenior comes in and sorts things out but didn't want him, which is fair enough from his point of view but the instability made signing Oscar a failure at that point. Then Walter comes in and brings him back but then loses him again. Under Rosenior we got Delap who was obviously good, but temporary. The only summer we really failed in our striker recruitment was last summer. So in general it's the instability and constant change which has been the problem rather than necessarily just failing to get a striker.
I hope it's better than your spell checker, that said... The views expressed in my posts are not necessarily mine.
Im only 3 minutes in, but its the best YT of any player ever been associated with since... the last best one... actually he's a baller...
You don't use a spell checker, and tomorrow is Monday. The views expressed in my posts are not necessarily mine.
