Oh we’ve made a profit, no doubt about that, I’d say given the number of appearances he made £3.5m if true is great business.
Absolutely quality player is Álzate, didn’t really do a lot for us though. Kind of a shame we won’t get to see him play under a decent manager but a good deal for us and you can hardly say we will miss him which makes it even better on our part.
I think it's fear full stop to be honest, but I'm speculating. It's not necessarily ability, more the willingness to do it.
The defenders were supposed to be involved like that, they didn't roll up their sleeves and think 'right, nobody's moving so I'm going to do it all myself'. Do you think Coyle's natural instinct is to run with the ball through and across our own area? None of them have done it since and it was commonplace under Walter... So it was tactical that they were involved in the manner they were. The reason nobody was available was due to pretty much everyone past the back 4 being complete strangers to each other. My initial point remains the same - we either need tactics which compensate for defenders unable or unwilling to progress the ball, they need to improve on that aspect of their games so they can work with the team to score more goals, or we need to look at bringing in upgrades that are either able, or willing to do it.
But anyone on a free and sell within 12 months Is the business model! Cannot see Villa selling anyone to Birmingham, even on loan. That Barry rumour is a non-starter surely
If Acuns 'relationship' with Villas owner is a strong one as he has intimated, even if Barry doesn't come you would think Villa owe us one...
You jest, Villa are part American owned, and Brum are American owned. Local rivalry has nothing to do with modern day football, unless Barry says no maybe, so perhaps a loan with option or commitment? The Birmingham owner wants to go straight through to the Premier League, but is Barry good enough for that contract?
I know there was debate about McLoughlin and Coyle but I’d certainly let Slater go if someone is interested. He’s probably worth something but his ability on the ball and constant hiding behind men means we should move him on for me.
Slater to Stoke keeps coming up. I think that would be a stupid deal for us and it'd make me suspect that it's not a happy camp. He shouldn't want to make that sideways move, but it's conceivable that he and others might be fed up of the managerial cycle thwarting any chance of success.
Or it might just be that he fancies a new challenge, doesnt see himself as an automatic starter and maybe could get a contact longer than here on more money...
