Macca I get, Jones would get a decent fee and is our 4th best centre back at the minute. Would leave on a high and probably get a decent fee
It’s being reported that Simons to Hibs is progressing and should be a done deal. Six-figure fee. I do wonder if they wanted to sign Triantis permanently but the fee Sunderland wanted (at least seven figures) was too much for them and Simons is the more affordable option. I’d take Triantis at City.
As PLT said about Macca and Jones - I think this would be a poor deal for us. Jacob isn’t going to be a starter but as a back up option he’s both cheap and has a relationship with the club. We’re also unlikely to get anything decent for him. These squad players should stay and we should be concentrating on getting rid of the likes of Giles.
He deserves a starting place and regular football , would not be surprised if they turned him into a Connor Townsend , we let him go and he develops majorly . He’s not quick but he’s fearless , looks for a goal at times , can tackle and pass - just needs a positional brain.
Big year ahead for him. 24 today. Still think there's a good player in there - good athlete, brave, likes to get forward, etc. Think he should have had more of a chance. ?
Anyone not wanting to get rid of Jacob is deluded. Even when he was our only fit natural left back he wasn't picked, and playing Macca out of position was preferred, so what's the point in keeping him around.
I’d keep him as back up, he’s cheap and a local lad. Suppose he might want to go and be first choice somewhere, which is understandable
But he wasn't used as backup? Macca was preferred, even when we had Giles. Unless he leaves, surely Macca is our LB backup, with the added benefit of being able to play CB too.
Jacob is now 24 and not broken into the first team. He might have a decent career but it shouldn’t be with us. He needs to play games and we need better, even as back up
Yeah, we should have signed Salah and Van Dijk. As we didn't we have to try to get value from lesser mortals. And it's not like City have ever let solid existing squad players go to be replaced by shiny expensive new ones that turn out to be no better. We finished the season with the tightest defence outside the top 3 after all. so I agree, whining about the likes of Coyle, Macca, Jones probably does mean the club is destined for failure under this populist ownership.
Depends what the new manager thinks but says a lot that last season we'd rather play a centre back and then a right back in his position
Tightening up the ship and having zero attacking outlet isn’t the win people think it is. Agreed but you have to start to build forward and improve the lesser players in the squad at some point? Blind loyalty because “works hard” or “local lad” to professional athletes is a joke to me.
