I really hope we can keep Hughes this summer. He was vocal about how much he liked Sellés and if OLM’s comments about the players being fuming at Sellés’ sacking, I wouldn’t be surprised if Hughes went at the first opportunity or told his agent to start looking for clubs, nor could I blame him. The owner has already shown multiple times that loyalty, faith and patience aren’t valued here so why should he or the supporters expect that of the players now?
I hoped the same about Walter. The two ****e coaches under Acun (Arveladze and Walter) were also not liked by many of the players. The two coaches who were somewhat successful or improved the team (Rosenior and Sellés) also happened to be well-liked. It’s not a coincidence. If Jakirović comes in all Billy Big Bollocks because he won the Croatian league with Zagreb and adopts a similar attitude to Walter then we are ****ed. That old-school style of man management just doesn’t fly with players anymore. They won’t just sit there meekly whilst another grown man screams at them. They’ll just laugh in his face or tell him to **** off then ring their agent the next day and tell him to start putting feelers out.
I agree with what we need but he definitely adds goals to a team which don’t really know how to score.
Gotta agree to disagree, he spent his career as a proper cm. He played here majorly up front, so n the wing or in the attack midfield supporting the striker. Yes he could go quiet a lot but even in those quiet times he was finding spaces, making himself available, licking out the ball, making all those little first time flicks etc that would help the whole team out and give us some tempo. Hes deffo in the top 5 city players I’ve seen in my lifetime easily.
If there is there won’t be after the first time he knocks out the whole squad B2B in a bare knuckle boxing tourney.
I don’t know. I know very little about him except from his own words during his first press conference at Kayserispor but that was mostly about tactics. He said he prefers 4-3-3 or 4-2-3-1 and high-pressing but understands the need to be pragmatic against superior opponents and isn’t against 3-5-2 or 5-4-1 if the situation requires. He also said whether it’s a high press, mid-block or low-block, he likes his teams to be compact and organised defensively. I know nothing about his man management style. The reason I would’ve liked Riera and Şahin as head coach is because there’s quite a bit of information and evidence on not just their tactics but also their man-management and character. They’re personable but have high standards. Completely different to Walter and more similar to younger coaches like Rosenior.
Do they all just go to the same EUFA coaching course and get brain washed into saying the same thing wanting to work with a small squad is another one
Caplin says “He said he prefers 4-3-3 or 4-2-3-1 and high-pressing but understands the need to be pragmatic against superior opponents and isn’t against 3-5-2 or 5-4-1 if the situation requires.” A big upgrade in mentality from the previous 5 managers then. I like that kinda thinking. Make the best of what you have and what the opponents are gonna demand of your team rather than just “dudkflfislfkdk the system fjdndlfksmmsfjcudksndjdjsnfndn”. Jakirovic in.
At Kayseri he mostly used 4-2-3-1 and 4-1-4-1 formation. Against Galatasaray and Fenerbahce opted for 5-4-1.
They all go through the same course to get a UEFA Pro License, yeah. They tend to do the courses in groups/classes. Riera did his Pro License in the same class as Xabi Alonso, for example. I’m pretty sure Sellés did his in the same class as Corberán too.
Sound like a good adaptable manager to me. Everyone these days wants to be Pep and be rigid about his set up shoehorning players into roles that don’t really suit them. Not everyone has a squad of the quality of MC at their disposal.
Şahin prefers 4-2-3-1 but used to play 5-4-1 against the likes of Fenerbahçe too when he coached Antalyaspor. Corberán preferred 4-2-3-1 at West Brom for ages and his previous clubs but went 5-4-1 for most of the second half of this season when he joined Valencia to add some stability and defensive organisation. He’s done really well there considering they were bottom of La Liga when he joined.
