Had an interesting chat with a Villa fan last night. Reckons clubs going down can charge a premium for players by structuring the deal to have little up front (or a mutually beneficial loan signing or similar) and backload payments for down the line when they may need the money more after parachute payments stop/begin pinching. Also helps teams like Villa and Utd who prefer not to have immediate big outlays but comfortable backing themselves over 5 years or whatever. Chelsea done it for years. So instead of £50m upfront you get a player on loan plus £10m, for argument's sake, followed by £25m in years 3 and 4. With so many good teams on the FFP line he said it would mean more ££ for relgated clubs in future. Win win if players hell bent on leaving and providing you can still bring in who you feel you need as a relegated club. He's often full of sh!t but did make me think
SR have been good at getting decent money for players we want to keep, or even sell. To our detriment at times with not letting players go on the cheap like Onuachu. Will be down to how much Fernandes pushes for the move I’d imagine. If he’s like Alcaraz and happy to stay for a year then cool, wait and see if anyone wants to bid £50m+. If he’s wants out then our hand might be forced slightly, still hope we’d get around the £40m mark.
Id imagine most deals are done in a structured way. Maybe not that backloaded but if we sold a player for £50m I doubt we got all that money immediately, probably over a number of years
I get it from the average fans perspective. They’re probably thinking Fernandes must be **** because he was part of one of the worst teams ever and spending £50m or whatever must sound like insanity. Maybe even clubs are thinking that as well, “he can’t be that good as he didn’t influence the team to do better, for that sort of money you want a player who can demonstrate more”
Agreed, ties in with what John Percy was saying about Saints asking for ridiculous money for their players
1st signing incoming. German CB. Joshua Quarshie. Ball playing CB 6’5” and pretty rapid apparently. Big step up though if expecting to go into first team squad.
According to transfermarkt he can cover at left back. Which could work well with a back 3. Also if there was any truth in the right back from Orlando then giant full backs could be fun / interesting I’d expect he might be one for the squad rather than the first team given I assume we will have Stephens, Edwards and Wood. And for a 3 also Bree. But who knows who will be staying or going. But I expect Bednarek and THB to be off and ABK to not be involved whether he is here or not edit: forgot about Sanda. And no idea if anyone would pay what we would want for THB
Think he’ll be part of the 1st team squad. Played in Bundesliga 2 this season and a German U21 player who I think is in their Euro squad for next month?
4 out of 10 so far: Correct: Rohl 1st choice but looks dead. Still announced before final game KWP definitely off German CB incoming TBC: Fernandes only going for £50m ABK is a prick and sold soon (hopefully) Might loan out Ramsdale Bednarek off, maybe to PL team THB is off... and fat Dibling maybe off to Manu
Who is going to pay 20m minimum for THB? Especially if he is out of condition. Or is this another loan to get wages off the books? And aren’t all the stories that Man United’s finances are precarious? They need a lot of sales. Garnacho will be one and that will be mostly if not all profit. But they are paying 60m for the Wolves winger. Dibling would probably be lower down on their priority list wouldn’t he? Would surely need Fernandes to go to have any hope of playing but this is United and they often seem to spend lavishly on players they think are good without thinking of the squad or system You’d think a proper striker and new goalkeeper are far higher on the list than paying big for a teenager.
