Maybe we could go back for the goalkeeper from Feyenoord…. He looked hilarious…. Good shot stopper and sh*thousery too…. Works for me…!
Personally would rather sell unless they pay a massively inflated loan fee with a higher obligation, not option, to buy next season.
Why obligation? I'd rather no option at all TBH. If they can take him on loan, paying all of his wages with a loan fee that will do for me. If we do go back up it would be good to have Ramsdale back. Having said that, that particular scenario is a long shot.
If we get any money back at least, I think we should sale provided we can get the goal scoring creative player we desperately need. Mccarthy will be adequate next season
Going to Newcastle must have double appeal for Ramsdale Big club, good move etc... but also has the chance to take Pope out of the England reckoning at the same time. Pickford, Henderson and one other. And if Trafford is sat on the bench at City behind Ederson while Ramsdale is playing for Newcastle... he should make the cut for the World Cup
It sounds like we'll be getting a good loan fee plus his wages off the books for at least this season. Will be interesting to see what the terms are regarding the option to buy but seems like Saints will be getting a good deal.
Just don’t think he’d want to come back to us after playing in the champions league etc, so would rather a deal to suit us for the here and now.
Maybe, maybe not. Also, Arsenal have a sizeable sell on clause so a loan with a decent fee plus wages covered might suit us better financially anyway, at least in the short term.
Depends if they want him, I guess. They clearly preferred Trafford and maybe in 12 months there'll be somebody else in the goalkeeper market they want
But he'll have a year at a top club and will likely back himself to win them over. Even if not he avoids the risk of another relegation
Personally think McCarthy is well past being a No.1 for an entire season. He did great coming in for the playoffs but that’s very different form being no.1 all season. He’s the ideal no.2 imo. And thinking Baz is a suitable No.1 for a team that wants top 2 based on a good 60 minutes here and there in pre-season friendlies when we’ve seen what he’s like across several seasons to know he’s not good enough is extremely hopeful at best. If Ramsdale goes I severely hope we are not just going to hope our long since tried (and failed) GK options are going to remain our only options.
My main issue with a loan with no obligation is it ties our hands. Doubt there are many good keepers who would be willing to join permanently knowing that if we achieve our goal (promotion) there is a chance that they instantly become number 2 next season. So means we either have to loan someone in ourselves and re-assess the Ramsdale situation next summer, or we go with McCarthy and Bazunu. Personally I don’t mind going with Baz for another season but I know I’m in the minority.
We absolutely need a new goalkeeper if he goes, McCarthy was ok for Championship level but hasn't played a full season in years and is getting to the later stages of his career. Last time we went up in spite of Bazunu not because of him, complete liability.
Whilst I completely agree, it is a difficult one because I think McCarthy and Bazunu are both on fairly high wages. We wouldn't want to be paying full wages of another 1st choice keeper so it would likely only happen if we can loan out Bazunu.
