Luke Shaw fetched £30 million when he was 18, 10 years ago. That made him the most expensive teenager in the world at the time, in any position.
What has that got to do with the Livramento transfer? Shaw was 3 years younger and played better without any injuries - hence why he went for so much all that time ago.
Ah, fair point. I meant to emphasise that even the best full backs in the world that have already reached their potential dont go for that much more than £40m. So getting that for Tino, after his injury, was crazy.
In the current climate Tyler has to be valued at £70million+ He’s English, only just turned 19, has 25 Premier League apps (2 goals in a terrible attacking side) & is clearly an absolutely huge talent, arguably more promising than Bale was at 19. Looking at past transfers for homegrown players I think the club would be mental to sell him for anything less than £60million imho. He would be invaluable to us next season if we could keep him.
Why, does my posting content relevant to the topic that may interest others and possibly stimulate talking points bother you Ian?
Again, it's about potential, Dibling has played only 25 first team games and Fernandes nearly 100 (and a year and a half older). Tyler has shown at times to possess the ability to make seasoned PL defenders look silly but is still a little inconsistent. He has just turned 19 and Matt Le Tiss only started playing regularly when he was 20.
For me, although I think Fernandes is a much better player currently & would rather keep him over Tyler, I would still only say his value is at around £30million. It’s simply just the type of player he is. A winger like Tyler is a rare talent that has the potential to grow into a player that can flip a game on its head with goals, dribbles and assists, and although his style is different he has to potential to change games in a way similar to the best of them - i.e Saka, Mane, Salah, Bale, Palmer etc whereas Fernandes is more like a well oiled engine, which I think there is a lot more of that type of player in Europe and globally tbh. Fernandes for me is like somewhere between a Carrick, JWP, Schneiderlin type player, bags of technical ability and energy but not necessarily gonna win you a game in the blink of an eye.
Good move for him if it happens. Not the sort of player we need as he clearly can’t defend to a PL level. Looks alright going forward in the main but we won’t need a full back like that unless we are in the Champ, and he isn’t going to want to be here if we are not in the PL. He probably would like quite good in a side that isn’t defending as much as we have been this season (like he was at AZ before we bought him)
