Fraser back with Newcastle training with the u21s so doesn’t seem like that one is as imminent as previously made out.

Talk of another loan being a possibility

Unfortunately we can't spend 20m on every position in the team.

We've already spent 30m on CBs. 6m on Sugawara. 18m on Downes.

We also need (more than a keeper imo):

1 x DM
1 x LW
1 x STR

Only after we've splashed out on them, possibly 50-60m, would I say we should prioritise another goalkeeper.

I'd add AM to that list too as we haven't replaced Stu, and we don't know if we will keep Alcaraz, let alone how much he will feature. Though imo a new no.1 GK is just as important as filling those other positions.

We still have a few potential sales to make yet though. With KWP, Paul, ABK & Sulemana all potentially leaving, that is not far off £50m in revenue, of which we would only really need to replace Sulemana.

You could argue we need to replace Adams and Stu though who we got nothing for and those two replacements could easily take up £50m

At the risk of starting a new tsunami of nautical puns, we really do need to push the boat out and sign a new number one GK. It is probably the most important position at the base of the spine of the team and probably cost us automatic promotion. Whether it's a loan or £20m+ permanent I don't care and I think Macca is pretty solid but he's really a back up now.

Mike Maignan? Only cost Milan €15 million 3 years ago, but worth a £25 million offer, surely.

I still think if we do sign a keeper it will be an older player out of contract for a year or a loan. I just can’t see us spending big when:

We have other needs as well
We still have Bazunu coming back in

The name who jumped out to me when looking at older freebies was Rui Patricio who used to play for Wolves, but whether he would want to move to England at his age for a year I have no idea.

There are so many Saints fans that will not accept the point posted earlier - McCarthy signed an extension to be number 1 this season. He seemingly had offers to either be number 1 elsewhere or number 2 at higher profile clubs. He doesn’t turn both of those down to be our number 2. Not when he is out of contract. What he has done for the last couple of years is not really a factor

I know most of us don’t like it. Doesn’t stop it being true

If a great loan opportunity came up then we might take it. But we have other areas we are clearly focusing on
